Ram has confirmed it is developing a full-size SUV, and a report says the brand plans to launch it in 2028. That timing—and reports of a Warren, Michigan, build site and gasoline or range-extender plug-in hybrid powertrains—describes a plan, not a finalized vehicle or guaranteed on-sale date. Ram has not published the SUV’s final name, price, trims, dimensions, seating, or production specifications.
Is Ram really making a large SUV?
Yes. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed the brand’s first non-truck product will be a full-size SUV, alongside plans for compact and midsize pickups, according to Kelley Blue Book’s May 21, 2026 report. Speaking to investors in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Kuniskis said: “We need to deliver the right products to the market, the right products for truck buyers in North America. We need to leverage the capital that we have earned with more products in more segments.”
The confirmation establishes that Ram is developing the vehicle; it does not amount to a public specification sheet or a firm retail date.
When is the new Ram SUV expected to arrive?
Car and Driver reported on October 30, 2025, that Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa told Wall Street analysts Ram planned to launch the SUV in 2028. The report cited Automotive News. Treat 2028 as the reported launch target, not a guaranteed date when customers can order or take delivery. Car and Driver also said a Stellantis spokesperson had no additional comment at the time.

Where will it be built, and what powertrains are reported?
The same Car and Driver report says the SUV is expected to be built in Warren, Michigan, and offered with either a gasoline powertrain or a range-extender plug-in hybrid. Those are reported plans. No final engine, battery capacity, electric range, power output, or fuel-economy figures have been published in the information available here.
Will it be called the Ramcharger?
Ramcharger has been reported as a possible name for the SUV, but Ram has not confirmed its final name. Kelley Blue Book notes that the name was used for a Dodge SUV sold from 1974 through 1993. It was also briefly planned for an extended-range Ram 1500 before the truck’s naming changed. The history explains why the name may sound familiar; it does not confirm that the new SUV will use it.

How might the Ram SUV compare with a Tahoe or Expedition?
MotorTrend’s August 31, 2026 preview frames the anticipated Ram as a full-size rival to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and Ford Expedition and Expedition Max. That is the outlet’s competitive analysis, not a comparison published by Ram. MotorTrend also discusses possible links to the Grand Wagoneer and Ram 1500 architecture, but those are expectations rather than confirmed product details.
A meaningful buying comparison will need verified information on price, seating and cargo room, towing capacity, engines and electrification, fuel economy or electric range, four-wheel-drive and off-road equipment, warranty, and availability. Without the Ram’s specifications and pricing, there is not enough information for a reliable head-to-head recommendation.

Ram has confirmed the vehicle’s development and full-size SUV role. The reporting adds a 2028 launch plan, Warren production expectation, and possible powertrain choices, but final consumer-facing details remain unannounced.
