Radford’s first modern car, the Type 62-2, was inspired by the 1969 Lotus Type 62 and was reported at its 2021 launch to use the Lotus Evora GT chassis. It adds bespoke bodywork and substantial mechanical changes, so “based on an Evora” is more accurate than calling it a simple rebodied Evora. Radford now presents the car as a coachbuilt, personally commissioned model, with current versions and specifications that differ from the launch-era descriptions.
What is the Radford Type 62-2?
The Type 62-2 is the revived Radford marque’s first modern car. Radford says its design draws on the 1969 Lotus Type 62 race car, while a 10 August 2021 WhichCar report described a two-seat car limited to 62 examples and based on the Lotus Evora GT chassis.
That launch-era report also described bespoke carbon-fibre composite body panels and mechanical alterations. It said the car sat almost 10 centimetres lower than an Evora GT. Those are details reported in 2021, not confirmation of measurements or specifications for every current commission.
Is it just a Lotus Evora with a new body?
No. The documented connection is specific: WhichCar identified the Evora GT chassis as the Type 62-2’s basis, while also reporting custom bodywork and mechanical changes. Radford’s current presentation emphasizes commissioned coachbuilding. Stratasys, a project supplier, separately says it produced more than 500 3D-printed parts for the project; that supplier account supports the picture of a heavily customized build, but does not establish exactly which components are shared with an Evora.

Radford’s current site describes the Type 62-2 as its first modern car and links it to the original Lotus Type 62. Radford’s home page foregrounds that heritage and the company’s commission approach rather than providing a component-by-component account of the Evora relationship.
How the current Type 62-2 versions differ
Radford’s current cars page lists four expressions. Its labels are not a continuation of the Classic, Gold Leaf and planned JPS names used in 2021 launch coverage; the available information does not establish a direct mapping between the two lineups.

What the 2021 launch specifications said
WhichCar’s 10 August 2021 report used a different trim structure and gave power in kilowatts. It described the original lineup and options as follows:

| Launch-era version | Engine and output reported in 2021 | Transmission and other reported details |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | Toyota-sourced supercharged 3.5-litre V6, 320 kW; higher-output engine could be optioned | Six-speed manual, electronic diff lock; seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) available |
| Gold Leaf | 373 kW version of the V6, with upgraded pistons, conrods and cams | Seven-speed DCT and limited-slip differential; split ducktail spoiler, red-and-white paint and bespoke titanium exhaust were reported |
| JPS | Then-planned version with a larger supercharger and claimed 447 kW | Transmission details not stated in the report |
These are launch-era descriptions, not current specifications. The 2021 report also described an optional hydraulic front lift, four-pot AP Racing calipers, iron rotors and unassisted rack-and-pinion steering on the cars shown. It does not establish that those details apply to every later car or current commission.
What was custom-built for the project?
In a 16 February 2022 release, 3D-printing supplier Stratasys said more than 500 printed parts were created for the Type 62-2 project across prototype and production applications. Its examples include a composite firewall core, mirror housings, radiator ducts, body vents and mounting brackets. Stratasys described work spanning Radford Studio, Aria Group and Stratasys Direct Manufacturing, with the first two cars using parts made on multiple printer types and at several locations.

That is Stratasys’s account of its contribution, not an independent audit of the car’s parts count. Radford figure Ant Anstead described the benefit this way: “Stratasys’ 3D printing technology gave us the design freedom and ability to easily create customized, one-off pieces and parts for these two prototype vehicles.” Stratasys’s release attributes the quotation to Anstead.

Radford says Tanner Foust’s Type 62-2 broke the previous Pikes Peak Exhibition Class record by more than 23 seconds. Its current cars page gives the time as 9:37.326 and calls it the first Exhibition Class car to break the ten-minute barrier. These are claims published by Radford, not independently verified figures in the cited material.

Can you still order a Type 62-2?
Radford currently invites prospective clients to enquire about allocations and describes the cars as personal commissions. Its current pages do not publish a production count, delivery schedule or number of remaining allocations. The 62-car figure belongs to the 2021 launch announcement; it does not establish that an allocation is available today. Contact Radford directly through its official site for current availability.
For owners seeking ordinary Lotus Evora parts or manuals, Lotus said in a 1 September 2022 announcement that its official parts platform covered models including Evora. That does not show that Evora parts fit the re-engineered Type 62-2; confirm compatibility with Radford or Lotus before ordering. The platform’s selection process uses model, year, driveline and trim, according to Lotus’s parts information.
