Its plans for rehiring, U.S. assembly, store expansion and discounted replacement batteries could reshape the e-bike company, but the available reporting does not establish that those plans were completed by October 4, 2026.
Who owns Rad Power Bikes now?
Life EV announced on March 5, 2026, that it had completed a court-approved acquisition of the Rad Power Bikes brand, intellectual property, inventory and certain operating assets. The company said it would continue U.S. retail operations under the Rad Power Bikes name and planned to expand into selected markets. Its announcement also described honoring certain warranties and gift cards under the asset purchase agreement; that is not a promise to assume every obligation of the former business.

GeekWire reported on March 6 that the new corporate entity Rad Life Mobility was owned by Life EV. CEO Robert Provost described the restart as “not a continuation of Rad Power, more like a phoenix,” and called it “the rebirth.” Those remarks capture management’s framing, not proof that the new company had restored the former operation.

What did the new owner say it would change?
In his March 6 interview with GeekWire, Provost outlined a turnaround built around a smaller, more tightly managed operating model. The initiatives below were plans or targets at the time of that interview, not confirmed milestones.

Rehire former employees
Provost said offers had been extended to 95% of workers laid off during the bankruptcy process and that about 70 people had accepted by the time of the interview. Those are figures from his March account; they do not establish the company’s current headcount or how many former employees ultimately returned.
Assemble bikes in the United States
Provost described a plan for just-in-time final assembly at a central-U.S. facility of about 100,000 square feet, with components sourced globally. He also said the company intended to use a Foreign Trade Zone structure. The proposal was for U.S. final assembly—not a claim that every component would be made domestically. The reporting does not confirm that the facility opened or that this assembly system began operating.
Keep stores open, then expand retail and dealer coverage
At the time of the interview, seven U.S. Rad stores were expected to remain open, including the Ballard flagship in Seattle. Provost named Florida as a reopening priority and Vancouver as a possibility. His longer-term target was stores in at least 24 additional U.S. markets. He also said Rad intended to improve pricing for dealers. The interview describes expectations and ambitions, not store openings or a completed dealer-pricing change.
Offer discounted batteries to affected owners
Provost said Rad planned a program offering affected owners Safe Shield batteries at roughly a 50% discount. He put it this way: “We’re going to put a program in to go ahead and replace those batteries for everyone, at like a 50% discount.” The interview did not establish that the program launched, who would qualify, which replacement batteries would fit each bike, or what current prices and terms might be. Treat it as a stated plan, not an available offer.
Control costs and return to profitability
Management’s stated agenda also included developing new products, maintaining sufficient inventory, reducing third-party logistics costs and returning the operation to profitability. These are business objectives, not evidence that profitability or the targeted cost savings have been achieved.

What is confirmed—and what is still uncertain?
The completed court-approved asset acquisition is distinct from the proposed turnaround. The acquisition announcement establishes that the transaction closed; the March interview establishes what Provost said the company hoped to do. The sources available through October 4, 2026, do not establish whether rehiring, the planned U.S. assembly operation, additional store openings or the discounted battery program were completed. Later announcements or current company information would be needed to verify those milestones.
There is some later context for Life EV’s ambitions. Electrek reported on June 24, 2026, that the company was considering a potential QuietKat acquisition to serve off-road, hunting and outdoor markets. That report does not show that a QuietKat deal closed. It described Rad as focused on utility and commuting, with Serial 1 positioned in the premium segment. Life EV’s broader multi-brand strategy should therefore be read as a portfolio plan, not as a completed expansion of Rad itself.
What Rad owners should know about the battery warning
The ownership change does not alter the safety instructions for batteries covered by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s November 24, 2025 warning. The CPSC identified lithium-ion battery models RP-1304, RAD-S1304Y and HL-RP-S1304, and listed these e-bike models among those affected:
- RadWagon 4
- RadCity HS 4
- RadRover High Step 5
- RadCity Step Thru 3
- RadRover Step Thru 1
- RadRunner 2
- RadRunner 1
- RadRunner Plus
- RadExpand 5
The CPSC reported 31 fire reports, including 12 reports of property damage totaling approximately $734,500. The agency’s instructions are to stop using an affected battery, remove it from the e-bike and follow local hazardous-waste disposal procedures. Do not put it in ordinary trash, curbside recycling or an ordinary battery collection box. Check the battery’s model label and the current CPSC guidance; a bike’s brand alone does not establish whether its battery is covered.
Rad said in its response to the CPSC warning that Safe Shield and semi-integrated batteries were not subject to the agency’s statement. That company response is not a substitute for the CPSC’s instructions for batteries it identifies as affected. Rad’s product catalog uses model-specific compatibility information for batteries, so owners should confirm compatibility for their exact bike rather than assume a replacement is universal. Catalog stock and availability can change.
