Punjab, Pakistan has opened registration for its October 2026 online auction of preferred vehicle registration numbers. Business Recorder reported on October 2 that bidding is open for motorcycles, motor cars and commercial vehicles, with registration accepted through October 31. The report does not list the numbers on offer or their reserve prices, so check the official Punjab Excise portal for the live auction and its instructions before paying.
What the October announcement confirms
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Punjab Excise Department are running the auction through an online portal and app, according to Business Recorder’s October 2, 2026 report. The report says applicants can register online without visiting an office and that the registration window closes October 31. It does not confirm the October round’s available marks, reserve prices, complete event timetable, or round-specific payment and eligibility rules.
PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf described the platform as providing a “seamless, secure, and transparent mechanism.” That is the department’s characterization of the service, not an independently verified assessment. The announcement reports no participation, revenue or results statistics for this auction.
How to check the auction and register
- Open the official Punjab Excise website and follow its current link to the e-Auction portal or app. Confirm that the October auction is live and review its notices before entering details or making a payment.
- Use the portal’s current instructions to check which marks are available, the vehicle classes eligible for each mark, the applicable reserve amount, fees, dates and payment steps. The news announcement does not supply those round-specific details.
- If you proceed, provide the information and documents the live auction requests. The standing policy describes applicant identity and vehicle details, but the October report does not confirm every current requirement.
What the standing auction policy says
The department’s published policy for auctioning attractive registration marks provides general rules. They offer useful context, but should not be treated as confirmation that every term applies unchanged to the October 2026 round.

Marks, vehicles and application details
The policy covers preferred marks for vehicles and gives examples such as single-digit numbers, 786, repeated digits, patterns and round numbers. It says the platform publishes which marks are available before each auction round; examples in the policy are not proof that those marks are available in October. Applicants select an available mark and provide details including a CNIC or NTN and vehicle chassis number. Under the policy, the mark is linked to a vehicle owned by the person, firm or company, or to a vehicle being registered through a transfer of ownership.
Fees, reserve amounts and bidding
- The standing policy lists a non-refundable Rs 100 participation fee. It also describes e-pay for the reserve price or average price.
- Reserve prices vary by mark and vehicle type. The policy does not establish the October lots’ current reserve prices; check the live auction before bidding.
- Under the policy, bid increases are in multiples of Rs 500 for four-wheelers and Rs 200 for other vehicles.
- The policy describes a three-day bidder-registration period followed by two days of bidding. A mark receiving a top bid in the final 15 minutes gets a one-minute extension. These are general-policy mechanics, not a confirmed October timetable.
After a successful bid
The policy says the winning bid is in addition to the prescribed vehicle-registration fee. It gives successful applicants 15 days from the results to register the vehicle, with a possible additional 30 days in compelling circumstances. The mark may be displayed only after proper vehicle registration and, under the policy, is not freely transferable to a vehicle belonging to another owner. If the highest bidder does not pay within the stated time, the policy says the reserve amount may be forfeited and the mark cancelled. The department also reserves the right to cancel an auction or allocation.

Fancy registration numbers are not the separate vanity-plate program
Punjab Excise also has separate terms for personalized vanity plates, dated November 11, 2024. That program covers alpha, numeric and combined plate formats, scrutiny by a committee, and its own category-specific participation and reserve prices. Do not assume those terms or prices apply to the ordinary attractive-number auction announced for October 2026.
Punjab, Pakistan—not the Indian state
This announcement concerns Punjab, Pakistan and its Excise Department. The Indian state of Punjab has a separate transport department and a distinct fancy-number process; its official site says an auction held on June 3, 2026 was cancelled. Readers should use the Pakistan portal linked above for this October auction, not the Indian state’s process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bid without already owning a vehicle?

The October announcement does not spell out round-specific eligibility, so check the current portal terms for your circumstances before bidding.
When can I display an auctioned number?
The standing policy says the mark may be displayed only after the vehicle is properly registered. It does not establish whether any October-round instructions add requirements; check the current auction terms.
