The clearest new-product announcement is development of a mid-engined super-sports-car platform for a model line above the 911. An SUV above the Cayenne is only being explored, while a separate smaller SUV is planned for presentation in 2028.
What is Porsche’s new strategy?
Sportwagenschmiede 35 is Porsche’s plan to simplify its range and pursue more exclusive, higher-margin vehicles while reducing costs. Porsche says it wants cars that strongly express the brand’s character; CEO Dr Michael Leiters put it this way: “We will focus on cars that truly define the Porsche brand. In every segment, we want to offer the sportiest car.” Porsche’s 2026 strategy summary says the company plans at least one brand-defining new product each year by 2030.
The portfolio targets are about 20% fewer model variants and roughly 30% higher sales volume per variant in the medium term. Porsche also expects D- and E-segment vehicles to make up about 45% of its portfolio in the medium term. These are strategy targets, not reported results.
Autocar’s account of the plan adds financial and cost ambitions: a break-even volume below 200,000 units; group operating return on sales of 9–12% in the medium term and 15% in the long term; and reductions of up to 20% in development costs, around 30% in personnel costs, around 20% in sales and distribution costs, and around 40% in management positions. These, too, are targets. Autocar’s report also says Porsche aims to raise average selling prices of range-topping variants by around 20%, alongside its target for about 30% more sales per derivative.

Is Porsche building a supercar above the 911?
Porsche has announced development of a mid-engined super-sports-car platform that would support a model line positioned above the 911. This is a platform-development announcement, not confirmation that a finished production car has been launched. The official summary gives no production date, final name, price, detailed powertrain specification or final design. Autocar quoted Leiters saying, “we are developing a super sports car platform.”
The platform’s mid-engined layout is the specific technical detail Porsche has disclosed in the official summary. It does not establish the future car’s engine type or other powertrain details. Leiters also told Autocar, “I can assure you, the 911 will never be electric.” That statement is his position on the 911; it does not specify the powertrain for the separate future model line.

Which SUVs are in the plan?
| Vehicle | Position and certainty | Powertrain and timing |
|---|---|---|
| New B-segment SUV | Planned alongside the all-electric Macan; Porsche’s summary and Autocar describe a planned vehicle. | Combustion and plug-in-hybrid versions; planned for presentation in 2028. |
| SUV above the Cayenne | Porsche says it is exploring the possibility of a D-segment SUV above the Cayenne; it is not a confirmed launch. | Not specified in Porsche’s 2026 strategy summary; no timing stated. |
The distinction matters: the smaller SUV has a stated 2028 presentation plan, whereas the larger-than-Cayenne idea remains exploratory. Neither statement supplies a price, final name or detailed specifications. Porsche’s summary is available at Porsche Newsroom; Autocar also reports the smaller SUV and its powertrain mix at Autocar.

Autocar reports that the next-generation 718 Boxster and Cayman are expected in 2028 as electric cars. This timing and powertrain detail is reported by Autocar, rather than specified in Porsche’s official strategy summary. Porsche’s broader plan is not an all-electric-only product strategy: its announced portfolio includes multiple powertrain types, and the planned smaller SUV is described with combustion and plug-in-hybrid options alongside the electric Macan.

What does Porsche mean by more special editions?
Porsche plans more high-end 911 derivatives and greater exclusivity across its range. Autocar describes several strands: expanded Heritage offerings, limited-edition Manufaktur models, bespoke Sonderwunsch customization, Manthey limited editions and ultra-limited “few off” vehicles. These cover different ways of making cars distinctive—from themed or limited-run variants to customer-specific personalization. The report does not give production numbers or prices for these future offerings.
What changes accompany the new-product ambitions?
Porsche’s product strategy is paired with investment and workforce measures extending through 2035. The company says it will invest a cumulative €2.1 billion in Zuffenhausen and Weissach by 2035. It has also announced a further 5,000 job reductions by 2035, primarily through natural attrition, demographic effects, partial retirement and voluntary severance; employment and site protection are extended through 2035. These are announced plans and commitments, not completed outcomes. Porsche’s Future Package announcement quotes Leiters: “The Future Package is good for Porsche. It gives us the opportunity to strategically realign our company and invest in our competitiveness,”
