Porsche has put new generations of combustion-powered models into its long-term product planning, but it has not confirmed a new gas-powered Macan. The company says the Cayenne and Panamera will remain available with combustion and plug-in hybrid powertrains well into the 2030s. By contrast, Porsche said in March 2025 that the Macan line would become electric-only after the existing combustion model was phased out. A separately discussed SUV is not confirmed as a Macan.
What Porsche has confirmed
Porsche’s September 19, 2025 product-strategy realignment added new generations of existing combustion models to its Cycle Plan. The company said current Cayenne and Panamera models would remain available with combustion and plug-in hybrid powertrains well into the 2030s. That is a broad product plan, not a promise of specific launch dates, engines or availability in every market. Porsche’s announcement tied the realignment to changed market conditions, customer demand and a slower-than-expected transition to electric mobility; that is the company’s explanation for its decision.
In its October 7, 2026 strategy announcement, Porsche said it would invest in brand-defining combustion-engine and plug-in-hybrid drives as part of a three-pronged powertrain approach. It also said it was exploring a possible D-segment SUV above the Cayenne. The announcement did not name individual successor models, specify an engine or give a launch date. Porsche’s Strategy 2035 announcement therefore reinforces its investment in combustion and PHEV technology, but does not establish a new ICE Macan.
Is Porsche bringing back a gas-powered Macan?
Not according to the company’s stated plan. In March 2025, Porsche said it stood by its decision to fully electrify the Macan line: after combustion Macans of the same name were phased out, the Macan would be sold only as an all-electric model worldwide. Porsche’s March 2025 statement also said it was evaluating an independent SUV line with combustion and hybrid powertrains. It did not call that vehicle a Macan.

The possible SUV described in October 2026 is likewise a separate, unconfirmed prospect: Porsche placed it above the Cayenne and did not identify it as a Macan. Until Porsche explicitly connects that project to the Macan nameplate, headlines saying the ICE Macan is confirmed go beyond what the company has announced.
What happened to the existing combustion Macan?
The existing model’s availability depended on market and date. Porsche reported in its first-half 2026 delivery update that it continued to offer the combustion Macan in most countries outside the European Union, alongside the electric Macan. It said production of the combustion model would continue through the end of July 2026. That describes the outgoing car, not a confirmed successor. Porsche’s delivery report gives the contemporaneous status.

For January through June 2026, Porsche reported 35,315 Macan deliveries in total, including 19,695 combustion Macans. The company said those combustion deliveries came from markets where the model remained on offer, mostly outside the EU. The figures are deliveries, not orders or future targets, and they do not establish why customers chose one powertrain over another.

What the delivery figures do—and don’t—show
Porsche’s January–June 2026 report lists 38,141 Cayennes, 35,315 Macans and 9,308 Panameras delivered. The Macan total includes 19,695 combustion models. These company-reported counts provide a snapshot of deliveries in that six-month period; they are not forecasts and do not prove that any particular powertrain strategy caused a sales result.

The key distinction is between a named model plan and a technology or vehicle still under evaluation. Porsche has explicitly described long-term combustion and PHEV availability for the Cayenne and Panamera. It has also announced continued investment in those powertrains. Neither statement reverses its separately stated electric-only direction for the Macan nameplate.
