The Porsche 963 RSP is a one-off road-use adaptation of Porsche’s 963 endurance prototype, unveiled on roads near Le Mans in June 2025. It was street-driven for its debut under special French permissions—not homologated as a road car for Porsche’s model lineup or offered as a generally available production car.
What is the Porsche 963 RSP?
The 963 RSP is a bespoke version of Porsche’s hybrid 963 endurance racer, created for a public-road debut ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche announced it on June 6, 2025. The initials “RSP” refer to Roger Penske, and Porsche AG, Porsche Penske Motorsport, Porsche Cars North America, and Penske worked on the project. Porsche’s announcement and the Le Mans event organizer’s account place its unveiling near the Circuit de la Sarthe before the race.
Is the Porsche 963 RSP street legal?
It was allowed on the road for its French debut under special circumstances and local requirements. Porsche says the modifications enabled it to use French “W,” or manufacturer, plates for that occasion. The company is explicit that the RSP is not a homologated addition to its model lineup and is intended to remain a one-off. That limited road-use exception does not establish that the car can be registered for ordinary road use in France or any other jurisdiction.
What changed for the road debut?
The 963 RSP retained its race-derived foundation, but Porsche adapted it for the permitted drive. The changes included a raised ride height, softened dampers, road lighting and turn signals, wheel-arch bodywork, wet-weather tires, and a horn. These details distinguish a special road-use debut from a production road-car homologation.

How does the 963 RSP relate to the racing 963?
The RSP keeps the 963’s hybrid V8 powertrain in standard race tune, with the motor-generator-unit (MGU) delivery remapped for smoother road use and the system adapted to run on pump gasoline. Porsche says the lithium-ion hybrid battery can power the car electrically. The underlying 963 is an LMDh endurance prototype with a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8; Porsche describes its output as up to approximately 680 hp. That is the manufacturer’s approximate figure for the 963, not an independently measured output for this particular RSP. Porsche’s RSP technical description and its 963 background material provide the powertrain context.
In comparison with the competition car, the RSP’s defining differences are its road-debut adaptations, not a claim that it was re-engineered into a regular road model. Porsche has not supplied an independently tested RSP acceleration, top-speed, weight, or fuel-economy figure.

Why does the RSP pay tribute to the Count Rossi 917?
The project recalls the Count Rossi 917, the Porsche endurance car that made a public-road journey in 1975. The RSP echoes that car’s distinctive presentation with a Martini Silver finish and a bespoke interior trimmed in tan leather and Alcantara, along with details inspired by the earlier 917. Porsche presents the two cars as exceptional road-use expressions of racing machinery; the RSP’s own status remains a one-off with a special local debut, rather than a homologated production model. The full-size RSP is intended to remain a one-off, and the available information does not establish that it is for sale or provide a price. Porsche’s official shop has listed 1:43-scale collector models of both the 963 and 963 RSP. The US listing for the 963 RSP model describes it as limited to 2,026 pieces; availability and stock can vary by region and over time. These are display collectibles, not the full-size car.
