Porsche’s first production model series with optional inductive charging is the all-electric 2026 Cayenne. Called Porsche Wireless Charging, the system lets compatible owners charge at home by parking over a floor-mounted plate. It delivers up to 11 kW of AC power, making it a convenience feature for overnight charging—not a replacement for wired DC fast charging.
What Porsche announced
Porsche announced its wireless-charging system on September 4, 2025, before unveiling the all-electric Cayenne on November 19, 2025. The Cayenne Electric is the first Porsche model series to offer the technology as an option.

The system is designed for a garage, carport, or other private parking space. It is not wireless charging while driving, and it is not a public fast-charging network.
Porsche describes the system as a one-box design: the floor plate contains the charging components that would normally be housed in a separate wallbox or control unit. However, it still needs an electrical supply and professional installation.

Porsche’s technical announcement and its U.S. Cayenne Electric release identify the relevant hardware and capabilities.
How Porsche Wireless Charging works
The charging plate uses a copper-and-ferrite transmitter coil to create a magnetic field. A receiver coil installed in the Cayenne’s underbody captures that energy, and a rectifier converts it for the vehicle’s high-voltage battery.
The coils operate across a gap of roughly four to six inches. The Cayenne automatically lowers its ride height to reduce that distance. Ultra-wideband positioning technology and the vehicle’s parking-view guidance help the driver align the car over the plate.

What the owner must install
- Compatible vehicle hardware: The Cayenne must be ordered with the vehicle-side wireless-charging receiver or required pre-installation equipment.
- Floor plate: The plate measures approximately 117 × 78 × 6 centimeters and weighs more than 50 kilograms.
- Electrical connection: Despite its one-box design, the plate must be connected to the home’s electrical supply.
- Professional commissioning: Porsche says its Installation Service can arrange an electrician to install and commission the system.
Porsche said sales of the system would begin through Porsche Centres and the Porsche Shop in 2026. The cited Porsche materials do not provide a confirmed U.S. price for the floor plate, vehicle hardware, or installation.
11 kW is convenient, not fast
Porsche Wireless Charging supports up to 11 kW and Porsche says energy-transfer efficiency can reach up to 90 percent. Both figures are manufacturer-stated maximums, not guarantees of constant real-world performance.

The Cayenne Electric has a 113-kWh battery. Porsche says wired DC charging can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 16 minutes under ideal conditions. Wireless charging is therefore not intended to compete with that road-trip capability; its value is avoiding daily cable handling.

Safety and weather protection
Porsche says the floor plate includes motion detection and foreign-object detection. The system can interrupt charging if a living creature or metallic object interferes with the charging area. Porsche also says the plate is protected against rain and snow and limits electromagnetic radiation outside the relevant underbody area.

The company cites TÜV Süd testing and CE and UL certification for the floor plate. Those are Porsche’s stated testing and certification claims, not the result of an independent safety review.
Snow, dirt, debris, or metal objects on the plate could affect operation or trigger a safety shutoff. The driver must still park with sufficient accuracy; the system does not autonomously position the car for charging.

Porsche’s original announcement said Europe would receive the system first during 2026, followed by other markets. Porsche’s later U.S. communication says wireless charging is expected to become available in the United States in late 2026. Availability, ordering details, certification, and equipment packaging may vary by market.
The Cayenne Electric is available to order in the United States, with deliveries expected to begin at the end of summer 2026. U.S. MSRP is listed at $109,000 for the Cayenne Electric and $163,000 for the Cayenne Turbo Electric. Both figures exclude Porsche’s $2,350 delivery, processing and handling fee, taxes, options, and other charges.

Porsche has not published a confirmed U.S. price for Porsche Wireless Charging in the cited materials. Buyers should also account for electrical work, permitting, site preparation, and local utility requirements rather than assuming the hardware price represents the complete installation cost.
Who should consider it?
The system makes the most sense for a Cayenne Electric owner who parks in the same place every night and places a high value on convenience. It could be particularly useful for outdoor parking in rain, snow, or freezing conditions, while also reducing routine plug-and-unplug cycles.
A conventional wired Level 2 charger may be the better choice for buyers who want lower installation uncertainty, flexible parking alignment, comparable home-charging speed, or the ability to charge multiple EV brands from the same equipment. Wireless charging does not appear to offer a speed advantage over a suitable 11-kW wired installation.

The bottom line
Porsche Wireless Charging is a meaningful convenience upgrade for the 2026 Cayenne Electric: park correctly, engage the brake, and the car can begin charging without a cable. But its 11-kW ceiling makes it a premium home-charging alternative, not a faster way to charge on the road. The decision will depend on the still-unconfirmed option and installation costs, the owner’s parking setup, and how much cable-free convenience is worth.
