Porsche plans to present a new B-segment SUV in 2028 with internal-combustion and plug-in-hybrid powertrains, offered alongside the all-electric Macan. The company has not announced the SUV’s name or confirmed that it is a direct successor to the gas-powered Macan, so “Macan replacement” is a useful shorthand—not a confirmed model identity.
Is Porsche bringing back a gas-powered Macan?
Not under a confirmed Macan name. In its 7 October 2026 strategy announcement, Porsche described a new B-segment SUV with internal-combustion and plug-in-hybrid powertrains. It said the SUV would be offered alongside the all-electric Macan, but did not call it a Macan or identify it as the direct successor to the combustion Macan.
That distinction matters: Porsche had previously said the Macan model line would become exclusively electric worldwide after the same-name combustion models were phased out. In that 12 March 2025 announcement, it also said it was evaluating an independent SUV line with combustion and hybrid powertrains. The 2028 plan is consistent with that separate-line description, not confirmation that Porsche is restoring gasoline power to the Macan badge.
What Porsche has confirmed about the 2028 SUV
- Vehicle type: A new B-segment SUV.
- Powertrains: Internal-combustion and plug-in-hybrid versions are planned.
- Presentation: Porsche plans to present the vehicle in 2028.
- Production: Series-production ramp-up is planned for 2028.
- Business timing: Porsche expects a noticeable contribution to sales and profitability in 2029.
- Positioning: It is planned to be available alongside the all-electric Macan.
These are Porsche’s announced plans, not a promise of a particular showroom or customer-delivery date. Production ramp-up and a contribution to company results do not establish when orders will open or when a specific market will receive cars.

What remains unknown
Porsche’s cited announcement does not state the model name or badge, engine configuration, power output, dimensions, equipment, efficiency, price, order-opening date, customer-delivery date, or availability by market. It also does not define the SUV as the formal successor to the former combustion Macan. Until Porsche supplies those details, performance, range, pricing, and trim comparisons would be speculation.
How it relates to the electric Macan
The confirmed distinction is powertrain choice: the new SUV is planned with combustion and plug-in-hybrid options, while Porsche says the Macan will be all-electric. Porsche has announced parallel availability, but has not yet provided enough information for a meaningful comparison of size, performance, range, equipment, or cost.

The wider strategy has been evolving. On 19 September 2025, Porsche outlined broader product-plan changes, including brand-defining combustion models and successor generations for existing combustion models, while continuing to update its electric range. That strategy update did not name this future B-segment SUV.

Porsche reported 82,795 Macan deliveries for 2024 in its annual press conference for that financial year. That figure describes the Macan model line then on sale; it is not a forecast for the new SUV or evidence of its expected sales.
