The Porsche Panamera has three generations: the first was produced from April 2009 to August 2016, the second premiered in 2016, and the third was announced in 2023 as a 2024 model. These are broad generation milestones—not a complete model-year or trim guide for every market. Confirm a specific car by its model year and VIN.
Panamera generations at a glance
| Generation | Key date or span | Body-style milestone |
|---|---|---|
| First generation (G1) | Production: April 2009–August 2016 | First-generation Panamera; the cited production record does not provide a full body-style timeline. |
| Second generation (G2) | World premiere: 28 June 2016 | Standard saloon and long-wheelbase Executive were included; Sport Turismo joined from 2017. |
| Third generation (G3) | Announced in November 2023 as the 2024 model | The cited announcement identifies the third generation but does not give a complete body-style timeline. |
The dates refer to different milestones: production span, world premiere, or announcement and model designation. They should not be treated as a universal country-by-country model-year chart.
First generation (G1): 2009–2016
Porsche records the first Panamera’s production period as April 2009 through August 2016, with 164,503 units built. The final first-generation car left the Leipzig production line in August 2016. This production span does not mean every market designated its first example a 2009 model year.
The G1 made its public debut in Shanghai on 19 April 2009. Porsche described it as follows: “The first Panamera – with the internal designation G1 – made its public debut on 19 April 2009 on the 94th floor of the World Financial Center in Shanghai, and set standards in its class thanks to the wide spread between sportiness and comfort.” The statement is attributed to Porsche AG, not to a named individual.

Second generation (G2): premiered in 2016
Porsche held the second-generation Panamera’s world premiere in Berlin on 28 June 2016. The range included a standard saloon and a long-wheelbase Executive version. The Sport Turismo arrived as a later addition, introduced from 2017. Those dates describe Porsche’s launch milestones; local model-year naming and availability can vary.
Third generation (G3): announced in 2023 as a 2024 model
Porsche announced the third-generation Panamera in November 2023 and identified it as the 2024 model. For historical US launch context, Porsche announced a starting price of $99,900, excluding a $1,650 delivery processing and handling fee, and expected the car to reach US Porsche Centers in spring 2024. Those were launch details, not current pricing or a statement of present availability.

How to identify your Panamera generation and model year
Use the generation dates as orientation, then verify the individual vehicle. Porsche Shop’s accessory catalog groups vehicles as G1/G1 II (2009–2016), G2/G2 II (2016–2023), and G3 (from 2023). Because the catalog’s year bands overlap at generation boundaries, those labels alone do not establish a car’s exact model year, trim, equipment, or fitment.
- Find the vehicle’s model year and VIN using its vehicle documents or identification details.
- Choose the corresponding model year or enter the VIN on Porsche’s owner-manual page to access the applicable digital manual.
- For parts or accessories, verify compatibility against the exact vehicle and market-specific Porsche information rather than assuming items interchange across generations.
Porsche says manuals are available in print, through PCM, online, and in the My Porsche app for covered model years; the glovebox copy is abridged. Porsche Shop lists some products for specific generation groups—for example, a reversible luggage-compartment mat for G1/G1 II—so a Panamera label by itself is not proof of fit.

What the generation timeline does—and does not—tell you
The milestones establish the broad sequence: G1 production began in 2009, G2 premiered in 2016, Sport Turismo joined from 2017, and G3 was announced in 2023 as a 2024 model. They do not establish every country’s model-year changeover or a complete trim, powertrain, and body-style matrix for each year. For a specific Panamera, use its VIN, model year, and market-specific Porsche materials.
