When did Porsche stop making the Boxster and Cayman?
Production of the current 718 Boxster and Cayman ended at the end of October 2025. Porsche’s 2025 business-development report says the model series was being phased out; its production section records 15,856 718 Boxster/Cayman units completed at Osnabrück during 2025, with production discontinued at the end of October. Porsche’s first-half 2026 delivery report independently confirms that production of the 718 line ended in October 2025.

The production figures and delivery figures measure different things. Porsche reported 18,612 customer deliveries of the 718 Boxster and Cayman in 2025, down 21.4% year over year. It reported 2,789 deliveries in the first half of 2026, down 73% year over year. Deliveries are vehicles handed to customers, not cars newly built during that period, so the later handovers do not mean production continued into 2026.
Why did Porsche discontinue the current 718?
Porsche attributed the decline in 2025 deliveries mainly to the model series being phased out. Its annual report also says European cybersecurity regulations contributed to supply shortages for combustion-engined 718 Boxster/Cayman and Macan models in Europe and Germany. That is regional availability context; Porsche’s report does not establish the regulation as the sole cause of the worldwide production end.

The decision is specific to this 718 production run, not a declaration that Porsche is abandoning combustion engines across its lineup. In its strategy overview, Porsche describes a flexible future portfolio spanning combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles. The company has also said some electric launches are being postponed and combustion and hybrid models will continue longer in response to market conditions.
Will the Boxster and Cayman return as electric cars?
Yes, Porsche says it plans to offer future all-electric Boxster and Cayman models. The company’s 2025 annual report states: “The Porsche AG Group also plans to offer the 718 Boxster and Cayman models as all-electric models in the future.”

That statement confirms a plan, not a launch schedule or a finished successor. The cited official materials do not give an arrival date, final design, price, range or detailed specifications, and they do not confirm a combustion-powered successor. Those details should be treated as unannounced rather than inferred from the electric plan.

Production ending does not mean every car became unavailable at once. Porsche’s reported customer deliveries in the first half of 2026 show that handovers continued after production stopped. Remaining new-car inventory, if any, and used-car availability will vary by market and date; check current local listings and dealers for stock rather than assuming a particular trim or configuration is still available.
