Automotive reports identified a next-generation Porsche 718 Boxster prototype, known in coverage as the 983, winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden, in December 2025. The photos offer a few clues about the prototype’s exterior and cooling layout, but they do not reveal how it performed in the cold: Porsche has published no test results, range figures, charging data or traction measurements for the 983.
What was reported in Arjeplog?
Autoevolution reported in December 2025 that a 718 prototype had returned to Arjeplog, Sweden, for a winter-testing season. The account is based on spy photography and reporting, not a Porsche announcement of its test program. The location and winter-testing context are reported; the exact test conditions and objectives have not been published.
Porsche’s official history identifies the production 718 Boxster generation introduced in January 2016 for model year 2017 as the 982. “983” is the codename used in reports about the next-generation prototype, not a production model designation confirmed by Porsche. Porsche’s generation history and its current model-range page provide production-lineup context, not confirmation of the 983 test program.
What the prototype photos show—and what they do not
Autoevolution’s images and description point to several visible details on the photographed car. They are observations of a test prototype, not final production specifications.

- Center-mounted rear charge door: The reported placement is visible on the prototype. It does not establish the final charging hardware or charging performance.
- Active front cooling slats: The front openings appear to include movable slats. Their operating strategy and exact purpose have not been confirmed by Porsche.
- Nearly flat underbody: The report describes a largely flat underside. That visible feature does not establish the car’s platform, battery arrangement or aerodynamic performance.
Other claims in spy-shot coverage—including platform architecture, motor configurations, battery layout, possible combustion variants and launch timing—remain reporting or speculation unless Porsche confirms them. SEMA’s 2026 spy-shot article also discusses visible features and anticipated technical details, rather than providing an official specification sheet.
What the winter testing has not established
The reviewed coverage gives no official account of Porsche’s winter-test methods, ambient temperatures or battery-conditioning procedure. It also reports no measured cold-weather range, charging time, battery performance, traction result or handling result. A car being photographed in a winter-test location shows that testing was reported there; it is not evidence of a particular outcome.

There is no published 983 winter-test statistic to quote and no verified statement from a named Porsche spokesperson about this event. General electric-car cold-weather figures would not fill that gap: they would not be measurements of this prototype.
How the later Nürburgring sighting fits
In a separate report dated September 11, 2026, Car and Driver described a lightly camouflaged, near-production-looking 718 EV Boxster prototype testing at Germany’s Nürburgring. That was a later sighting at a different location—not further evidence about the conditions or results of the Arjeplog tests. Car and Driver said the car’s technical details and timing remained uncertain. Read Car and Driver’s Nürburgring report.

| Reported sighting | What coverage establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Arjeplog, Sweden; reported December 2025 by Autoevolution | A 718 prototype was reported winter testing; photos were used to describe visible exterior details. | Official test methods, weather conditions, battery or charging results, range, traction, and final production specifications. |
| Nürburgring, Germany; reported September 11, 2026 by Car and Driver | A separate, lightly camouflaged prototype was reported testing at the circuit. | Confirmed platform and powertrain details, final specifications, and launch timing. |
What to take away from the 983 winter-test report
The Arjeplog sighting is useful as evidence that a next-generation 718 prototype was reported undergoing winter testing and that certain design features were visible on that car. It does not provide a verdict on winter range, charging, grip or performance. Until Porsche publishes specifications or test results, those remain unknown.
