The same report listed a Tesla Model Y at AUD 58,900, but did not identify a comparable trim. The cut makes the Polestar 4 a more direct shopping alternative; the reported figures alone do not establish a like-for-like value match.
What the reported Australian price cut changes
CarsGuide reported the revised prices on September 9, 2026. The amounts below are reported Australian starting prices before on-road costs, not driveaway quotes or independently verified Polestar Australia prices.

CarsGuide described the Polestar reductions as approximately AUD 4,600. Its Model Y figure is lower than either Polestar starting price, but the report does not say which Model Y variant it represents or whether the transaction basis and equipment are comparable. Treat this as a broad market comparison, not evidence that equivalent versions now cost the same.
CarsGuide’s September 2026 report is the source for these Australian figures. Check the current Polestar Australia configurator or retailer price list and Tesla’s local pricing before making a purchase decision; taxes, delivery, options, stock and incentives can change the amount payable.

Is the Polestar 4 a Model Y alternative?
It belongs on the same shortlist if you are considering an electric SUV and want to compare a premium-priced Polestar with Tesla’s Model Y. But a useful comparison needs matching variants and transaction terms, not just two headline prices.
- Price basis: compare on-road or driveaway totals with the same treatment of registration, delivery and fees.
- Motor and performance: the Polestar figures distinguish Rear Motor and Dual Motor versions. Match those against the specific Model Y variant under consideration.
- Range: compare official figures using the same test cycle and market specification. Polestar claims up to 630 km WLTP for Rear Motor variants; this is a manufacturer figure, not an independently measured result.
- Equipment and availability: check what each local trim includes, when it can be delivered and whether the quoted vehicle is in stock.
- Current incentives: separate a list price from a temporary offer or negotiated transaction price.
Polestar describes the 4 as a D-segment SUV coupé positioned between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3. The coupé has no rear window, a conspicuous design difference to weigh in person rather than assume is either an advantage or a drawback. Polestar has also announced an SUV-bodied Polestar 4 sibling; the company says the new SUV and latest coupé have retuned chassis components. These details broaden the choice within the Polestar 4 line, but they do not establish how either drives against a Model Y.

Performance and body-style details to check
Polestar says Dual Motor versions produce up to 544 hp and Rear Motor versions have up to 630 km of WLTP range. Those are manufacturer claims for the stated configurations, not independent test results. Confirm the exact Australian variant’s specifications before comparing range or output with a Model Y.
The coupé’s missing rear glass is another practical point for a test drive: assess the camera-based rear view and your comfort with the cabin layout yourself. The available source describes the design but does not establish a safety or usability outcome.

Polestar’s original January 2024 launch announcement gave historical prices, including AUD 81,500. Those launch figures predate the September 2026 reported reduction and should not be used as current Australian pricing. For current model information, see Polestar’s July 2026 announcement.

The Australian price reduction should not be combined with US incentives. As accessed October 8, 2026, Polestar’s US offer is $25,000 off MSRP for a cash purchase of a new 2026 Polestar 4. Polestar states the offer runs from October 1 through November 2, 2026, requires delivery by November 2, and is subject to terms and participating locations. It is a US, time-limited offer—not an Australian price or a general discount for every buyer. Read the official US offer terms before relying on it.

US sales eligibility is a separate issue from that promotion. Polestar said the US government had not granted the authorization required under the current Connected Vehicle Rule for sales of model-year 2027 vehicles onward. The company said it would continue selling remaining Polestar 3 and 4 stock and supporting existing customers. That statement concerns US model-year 2027 sales; it should not be read as a change to Australian availability.
