Polaris Debuts Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory With a Stronger, Stiffer Chassis

The Gen 2 Polaris RZR Pro R Factory is a purpose-built SCORE desert racer with a new one-piece chromoly chassis, race electronics, Alcon brakes, revised suspension, and a larger fuel cell. Here’s how it differs from the production RZR Pro R and what its race results actually prove.

Polaris’ Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory is a purpose-built desert-racing UTV, not a lightly modified showroom trim. Its defining change is an all-new one-piece chromoly chassis and redesigned safety cage that Polaris says are stronger, stiffer, roomier, and approximately weight-neutral compared with the previous race chassis.

The racer keeps substantial production-derived hardware—including the 2.0-liter ProStar Fury engine, drivetrain, transmission, CVT components, steering rack, and much of the suspension architecture—while adding race-specific structure, electronics, brakes, fuel capacity, bodywork, and suspension calibration. That combination is the important story: Gen 2 is an iterative factory race program built around the RZR Pro R platform, not an entirely separate prototype.

What Polaris changed for Gen 2

Polaris announced the second-generation RZR Pro R Factory on March 20, 2024, ahead of the SCORE San Felipe 250. The company said the new car was developed through testing with its drivers during the 2023 championship season, when Polaris reported four consecutive wins and a SCORE series championship.

The launch centered on a structural redesign, but the changes extend across nearly every system that matters in a long-distance desert race: occupant protection, suspension control, braking, power delivery, fuel strategy, electronics, and serviceability.

One-piece chromoly chassis and redesigned cage

The Gen 2 racer uses a one-piece chromoly chassis manufactured by Technique Inc. Polaris identifies Technique as the sole provider of all NASCAR chassis and says its engineers used computer-aided design and finite-element analysis to develop the new frame.

According to Polaris, the chassis is stronger, stiffer, roomier, and roughly weight-neutral relative to the previous race chassis. The revised safety cage was also described as more than twice as strong as the applicable FIA requirement. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently published crash-test result, so it should not be treated as a laboratory-verified comparison.

The extra cockpit room is more than a comfort detail. SCORE desert races can run for hundreds of miles over rough terrain, making driver fatigue, seating position, access to controls, and occupant protection important parts of the vehicle’s performance. A stiffer structure can also make suspension behavior more predictable, although Polaris has not published independent before-and-after test data quantifying the difference.

More carbon fiber and better impact protection

Polaris increased the amount of carbon-fiber bodywork on the car to reduce weight and improve the power-to-weight ratio. The racer also receives removable front and rear bumpers built by Technique Inc.

Those bumpers are intended for the realities of desert competition, including “nerfing”—making contact with or bumping another vehicle while passing. Polaris also revised the mounting points for spare-tire carriers, jacks, and tool kits. In a race that combines speed with field repairs and long stretches between pits, those mounting changes can be as useful as a headline horsepower increase.

For a production RZR Pro R owner building a support setup, the Polaris RZR Pro R spare tire carrier is the closest practical accessory match discussed here. Polaris lists part number 2890863-458, which replaces part 2884326-458, as fitting a tire up to 33 inches and supporting up to 75 pounds. It uses dual latches and gas struts and includes a Y-strap, mounting hardware, and installation instructions. Fitment is listed across multiple 2023–2026 RZR Pro R configurations, but the exact model year, cage, and body configuration should be verified before purchase.

Suspension: FOX Live Valve hardware with four race modes

Gen 2 uses FOX 3.0 Live Valve X2 internal-bypass shocks controlled by a Polaris race-tuned DYNAMIX DV suspension module. Polaris says the calibration was developed with driver feedback for open-desert racing and offers four modes:

  • Comfort
  • Baja Soft
  • Baja Medium
  • Baja Firm

The purpose is not simply to make the car softer or harder. The semi-active system is intended to help the RZR remain controlled when the course alternates between corners, whoops, high-speed rough sections, and changing traction. The driver can select a mode suited to the terrain, while the control system manages the shock behavior within that calibration.

Polaris also developed stronger, stiffer upper control arms with more adjustability. That combination matters because a desert race car needs to maintain alignment and predictable geometry after repeated impacts, not just provide long suspension travel in a static specification sheet.

  • Sleek & Aerodynamic Design – Reduces Wind Drag & Noise, Adjustable Sun Visor for Optimal Visibility and Comfort.
  • Multi-Activity Use – Suitable for Adults & Teens in Motorcycle, ATV, Skiing, Karting, Biking & More. A Great Gift for Loved Ones.

Current production RZR Pro R materials also list FOX 3.0 Live Valve X2 shocks and DYNAMIX DV semi-active suspension. However, the production system and the Gen 2 factory-race system should not be assumed to have identical valving, software, mounting, or race calibration. The presence of similar hardware on a showroom vehicle does not make it a Gen 2 Factory racer.

Alcon brakes designed for repeated heavy use

Alcon supplies the complete high-performance brake system, including rotors, opposed-piston calipers, and dual master cylinders. Polaris says the package was selected for durability and resistance to brake fade during high-temperature, repeated heavy braking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That specification is significant in desert racing, where the car may repeatedly transition from high speed to tight corners while carrying heat through the braking system. It is also a race-application specification. It should not be interpreted as proof that every production RZR Pro R uses the same Alcon components or braking layout.

The production-derived powertrain remains central

The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter, four-cylinder ProStar Fury engine remains at the center of the Gen 2 racer. Polaris also says the production-derived package retains the following major components:

  • The engine
  • Front and rear drive systems
  • The transmission
  • The power-steering rack
  • Wheel bearings
  • CVT components, including the belt
  • Front and rear control arms
  • Knuckles and ball joints
  • Trailing arms

This is an important distinction from a clean-sheet prototype. Polaris concentrated race development on the areas most exposed to desert-racing loads while preserving a substantial connection to the consumer RZR Pro R platform. The approach gives the Factory racer production-platform credibility, but it does not mean the race car and showroom vehicle are interchangeable.

MoTeC electronics and a lighter prop shaft

MoTeC supplies the race-tuned electronic equipment, including the ECU, electrical power distribution, and switch panels. Polaris says the system was chosen for configuration flexibility and durability in high-speed competition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The previous steel prop shaft was replaced with an aluminum-and-carbon-fiber design. Polaris says the new shaft reduces weight, increases torque capacity, and helps the car accelerate more quickly. As with the chassis and cage claims, those benefits are based on Polaris’ technical description rather than an independent instrumented comparison.

Polaris also developed a lightweight race muffler intended to maximize power while controlling volume and refining the engine note. The dossier does not provide a race-engine horsepower figure, so the safest comparison is to describe the powertrain architecture rather than assign the factory car an unsupported output number.

Fuel capacity for fewer pit stops

An upgraded ATL fuel cell gives the Gen 2 racer a claimed range of up to 200 miles. That figure depends on course layout, terrain, speed, weather, vehicle setup, tire choice, and fuel strategy; it is not a universal operating range for every race or driving condition.

In a long desert event, the value is strategic as much as mechanical. A larger effective range can reduce the number of pit stops or allow the team to choose when to stop, but fuel capacity alone does not determine race performance.

How close is Gen 2 to a production RZR Pro R?

The current production RZR Pro R uses a naturally aspirated 1,997 cc inline-four engine rated at 225 horsepower. Polaris lists a 74-inch stance and approximately 29 inches of usable suspension travel, depending on configuration. Production materials also describe true 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD-lock drive modes along with race-proven suspension hardware.

Those specifications explain why Polaris uses the production RZR Pro R as the foundation for its factory racing program. But the Gen 2 Factory car adds or changes the parts that a showroom vehicle does not receive, including:

  • A competition-specific one-piece chromoly chassis and redesigned cage
  • Race-specific MoTeC electronics and switchgear
  • The Alcon brake system
  • Carbon-fiber bodywork and prop-shaft components
  • The ATL race fuel cell
  • Removable Technique bumpers and revised race-equipment mounts
  • Stronger, more adjustable upper control arms
  • Race-specific suspension calibration and cockpit equipment

In practical terms, buying a showroom RZR Pro R does not deliver the full Gen 2 Factory package. Nor does the factory car automatically qualify as street legal or as a normal recreational vehicle. It is a competition machine intended for organized off-road racing, with specifications and equipment selected for that purpose.

What the race results do—and do not—prove

Polaris’ 2023 launch context included four straight wins and a SCORE series championship. The Gen 2 program then produced a strong 2024 season, according to Polaris: Brock Heger won the SCORE Baja 1000, finished seventh among all four-wheel vehicles, and secured the 2024 SCORE UTV Pro Open Class championship. Polaris also reported that its team won the UTV overall at all four SCORE events that year.

SCORE’s own reporting provided an independent series-source counterpart to part of that story, noting that Cayden MacCachren had won all three 2024 SCORE Desert World Championship events held before the finale in the Pro UTV Open class aboard a Polaris RZR Pro R. That result supports the competitiveness of the broader RZR Pro R race program, but it should not be stretched into independent proof of every Gen 2 component claim.

Polaris reported another notable result in 2025: a 1-2-3 UTV overall podium sweep at the SCORE Baja 500, with all three vehicles identified as RZR Pro R Factory machines.

For 2026, Polaris reported that Brock Heger won the San Felipe 250 for a second consecutive year and that Joe Terrana and Dallas Gonzalez Jr. completed a 1-2-3 RZR Pro R Factory podium sweep. SCORE later reported that Polaris-supported driver Branden Sims finished second at San Felipe and sixth at the Baja 500 midway through the 2026 season.

These results show that the RZR Pro R Factory remained competitive across multiple SCORE events. They are not controlled comparisons against rival vehicles, and a race win cannot establish that the vehicle is objectively the fastest or most reliable UTV in every terrain, class, or operating condition. Driver skill, team preparation, tires, course conditions, strategy, and reliability all contribute to the outcome.

What owners should take from the Gen 2 program

The most useful lesson for a production owner is not that every Gen 2 part can be transferred to a recreational RZR. It is that Polaris’ race-development effort is focused on a recognizable set of weak points and operating demands: chassis stiffness, occupant space, heat management, braking consistency, suspension control, weight, fuel planning, and access to race equipment.

Owners preparing a production RZR Pro R for long-distance desert riding should begin with the vehicle’s exact model-year requirements and the official owner’s manual. Polaris’ owner-resource pages provide vehicle-specific manuals, maintenance information, service parts, warranty details, and access to recall and safety-bulletin information. The official manual should take priority over an unofficial downloadable guide.

The CVT belt is another support item that should be matched by exact fitment rather than by appearance. Polaris lists Pro Series CVT drive belt part number 3212326 for compatible RZR applications and describes it as intended for sustained high-RPM and high-load operation. It is not evidence of a special Gen 2 race modification; it is a potential service or spare part for applicable production vehicles. Check the Polaris fitment selector or confirm with a dealer before ordering, because using the wrong belt can create clutching, clearance, or durability problems.

Similarly, a spare-tire carrier should be selected for the vehicle’s cage and body configuration, tire size, and load. A rack that fits one RZR Pro R year or trim should not automatically be assumed to fit another.

Pricing and availability context

Race-car and production pricing should be kept separate. Polaris’ 2025 RZR Pro R Factory page listed a U.S. MSRP of $139,999 for the race-oriented Factory model. Separately, Polaris’ 2026 RZR announcement listed the production RZR PRO R Ultimate at a starting U.S. MSRP of $43,999 and said that lineup would begin shipping to dealers in October 2025.

Those figures are model-year-specific U.S. MSRPs, not universal current transaction prices. Freight, dealer fees, local taxes, geography, availability, and subsequent model-year changes can alter the amount a buyer actually pays. The production RZR PRO R Ultimate price is also not the price of the Gen 2 factory race vehicle.

The bottom line on the Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory

Gen 2 is best understood as a focused evolution of Polaris’ desert-racing platform. The one-piece chromoly chassis, redesigned cage, carbon-fiber components, Alcon brakes, MoTeC electronics, revised control arms, race-tuned DYNAMIX DV system, lighter prop shaft, and larger fuel cell address the demands of high-speed, long-distance competition.

At the same time, Polaris retained a substantial amount of production-derived RZR Pro R hardware. That gives the program a meaningful connection to the showroom vehicle without erasing the difference between a factory race car and a consumer UTV. The race results validate the competitiveness of the program; they do not turn manufacturer claims into independent test data or make the Factory specification available in every production RZR Pro R.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory the same vehicle as a showroom RZR Pro R?

No. The racer is built around the production-derived RZR Pro R platform but adds a competition chassis and cage, race electronics, Alcon brakes, carbon-fiber components, a race fuel cell, revised control arms, race bodywork, and race-specific suspension calibration.

How much horsepower does the Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory make?

The supplied technical information does not provide a verified race-engine horsepower figure. The production RZR Pro R uses a 1,997 cc naturally aspirated ProStar Fury inline-four rated at 225 horsepower, while the Gen 2 racer retains the production-derived engine architecture.

Does Polaris’ cage claim mean the Gen 2 racer passed an independent crash test?

No independent test report was identified in the supplied research. Polaris says the cage is more than twice as strong as the applicable FIA requirement, which should be presented as a manufacturer claim.

What range does the Gen 2 race car have?

Polaris claims up to 200 miles from the upgraded ATL fuel cell. Actual range varies with terrain, pace, course, setup, weather, and fuel strategy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can a production RZR Pro R be upgraded to Gen 2 Factory specification?

Some individual accessories or service parts may be available, but the supplied information does not establish a complete conversion path. The one-piece race chassis, cage, electronics, brake system, fuel cell, bodywork, and calibration make the Factory car substantially different from a stock vehicle.

The Bottom Line

Polaris’ Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory is a stronger-structure, race-focused evolution rather than a clean-sheet prototype. Its production-derived engine and drivetrain preserve the link to the showroom RZR Pro R, while the chassis, cage, suspension control, brakes, electronics, fuel system, and weight-saving measures are built around the specific demands of SCORE desert racing.
