Verified 2026 pickups that can tow at least 15,000 pounds
The ranking uses each pickup family’s strongest available engine. Torque and tow ratings are manufacturer-published figures, and maximum towing capacity applies only to specified configurations; it is not a rating shared by every truck in a model family.

The Silverado HD and Sierra HD are separate pickup families, but their listed 6.6L Duramax outputs come from the same GM engine family; they should not be read as two distinct engine designs. The manufacturers’ maximum tow figures also do not describe identical setups or towing methods, so they are not a direct apples-to-apples ranking of capability.
What the torque ranking tells you—and what it does not
Peak torque is a useful engine comparison, but it does not by itself determine what a particular truck can safely tow. A maximum tow rating depends on the exact truck configuration and hitch arrangement. For a real purchase or towing decision, compare the specific vehicle’s rating for the intended towing method, along with payload and trailer weight.

- Towing method: distinguish conventional towing from fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing. A headline maximum may apply only to one method.
- Truck configuration: cab, bed, axle, drivetrain, engine, and packages can affect the applicable rating. Identify the exact combination in the manufacturer’s chart.
- Payload: passengers, cargo, accessories, and hitch or pin weight use payload capacity and can reduce the trailer weight the truck can handle.
- Powertrain: compare the gas or diesel engine actually installed. The Silverado HD’s 6.6L gas V8, for example, is listed at 464 lb-ft, while Chevrolet’s diesel figure is 975 lb-ft; those powertrains and their maximum tow figures belong to different configurations.

How to check whether a specific truck can tow your trailer
- Identify the exact truck. Record model year, model (2500/2500 HD or 3500/3500 HD), cab, bed, drivetrain, axle, engine, and installed towing packages.
- Find the rating for the intended hitch method. Use the manufacturer’s model-year towing chart and match the truck configuration; do not substitute a family-wide maximum for the applicable row. - Check the truck’s payload label. Use the door-jamb payload information for that individual vehicle, then account for occupants, cargo, accessories, and hitch or pin weight.
- Confirm the trailer and hitch combination. Check the trailer’s loaded weight and the hitch’s rating, bed or hitch preparation, and compatibility against the truck’s documentation.
- Follow the owner’s manual. Its limits and instructions govern the specific truck and setup.
2500 or 3500: which is better for towing?
Neither badge alone answers the question. A properly equipped 2500-series truck may suit a given trailer, while a 3500-series configuration may offer a higher applicable rating or payload capacity. Compare the exact truck’s tow rating and payload with the loaded trailer and hitch loads; for fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing, pin weight makes payload especially important. The door-jamb label and owner’s manual are the practical references for the particular vehicle.
