A supercar driver was reportedly caught travelling 104 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in Mirrabooka on Easter Sunday 2024. PerthNow said the driver lost all 12 demerit points and was fined $800 during Western Australia’s Easter double-demerit period.

What PerthNow reported

In a report published on 31 March 2024, PerthNow journalist Claire Sadler said Mirrabooka police stopped the driver after the vehicle was recorded at 104 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. That is 34 km/h above the limit. PerthNow reported that the driver lost all 12 demerit points, was $800 out of pocket and had lost his licence for the fourth time. The report did not identify the driver or specify the supercar’s make and model. PerthNow’s account is the source for the individual incident details; the material available does not include the driver’s infringement notice or an independent police record confirming them.

PerthNow reproduced a statement attributed to a Mirrabooka Police social media post: “Road safety matters, folks. Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe,”

How the WA double-demerit rules applied

Western Australia’s Easter 2024 double-demerit period ran from Thursday 28 March through Monday 1 April. The state government’s Easter double-demerit reminder included speeding among the offences covered and stated that fines were not doubled.

The Road Safety Commission’s light-vehicle speeding penalty table lists this band for exceeding the speed limit by more than 29 km/h but not more than 40 km/h:

Penalty element Standard allocation During a double-demerit period
Demerit points for the 30–40 km/h-over band 6 points 12 points
Fine for the same band $800 $800; the fine is not doubled

The 34 km/h excess reported by PerthNow falls within that official band. The schedule aligns with the article’s account of an $800 fine and 12 points, but it establishes the general penalty—not the details of this driver’s notice or payment.

What “lost his licence” establishes—and what it does not

WA guidance says a full-licence holder may accumulate up to 12 demerit points within three years before disqualification for at least three months. The report does not state this driver’s licence class, point history, formal notice details or disqualification period. It is therefore not possible to give a confirmed duration for this individual’s loss of licence. The state’s double-demerit guidance and Transport WA driving-offences information explain the general rules, not this driver’s specific outcome.

The wider Easter road-safety context

In its 28 March 2024 reminder, the WA Government said 10 people had died during Easter double-demerit periods over 2019–2023, an average of two per year. Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner said: “We all have control over our choices when we get behind the wheel of a car and bad choices can kill.” He added: “I want more people to make the safe choice more often.”
