Perth petrol prices before Easter: What drivers were told in 2023

The Easter fuel advice in the headline dates to 2023: Tuesday was reported as Perth’s low-price day before a Wednesday reset, but regional prices differed and current prices need checking.

The advice in this headline belongs to Easter 2023, not today: a West Australian report published on 4 April 2023 said Tuesday was typically Perth’s cheapest day before the price cycle reset on Wednesday. Drivers planning a long trip were urged to fill up before that reset. The prices and weekly pattern below are historical; check FuelWatch for current prices and conditions.

When was the cheapest day to fill up in Perth before Easter?

In its 4 April 2023 report, The West Australian described Tuesday as the cheapest day in Perth, ahead of a Wednesday price-cycle reset. It said prices generally declined through the week and reached a low again by the following Tuesday. That was a description of the cycle at the time, not a guarantee for other weeks or today. Read the 2023 report.

FuelWatch spokesperson Kyle Huynh advised motorists planning long drives to top up before the reset and take advantage of lower Tuesday prices. Huynh described Perth prices as “very competitive” compared with the rest of Australia, as quoted by Ebony Chandler in the article.

Did the Perth price cycle apply to regional WA?

No. The 2023 report cautioned that the cycle did not work the same way in regional areas. Drivers heading to popular holiday destinations could encounter higher prices, so a Tuesday fill-up in Perth did not establish what fuel would cost at the destination. Compare prices at the places on your route, especially outside the metro area.

What prices did the article report?

FuelWatch figures reported by The West Australian for the previous week put the Perth metro ULP average at 178.5 cents per litre and the regional ULP average at 182.5 cents per litre. These are figures from 2023, not current quotes.

The article named Costco Casuarina and Costco Perth Airport among cheaper Tuesday locations at the time. Costco fuel required membership, and those historical examples do not show which stations are cheapest now.

How to check current Perth petrol prices

Use FuelWatch, the WA Government’s fuel-price comparison service, rather than relying on past prices. Its service information says motorists can compare prices by area, notified prices stay fixed for 24 hours from 6am, and prices for the next day become available after 2:30pm. For a useful comparison, match the required fuel grade, station location against your route, price-reset timing, and any access conditions such as membership. FuelWatch says same-day savings can be up to 30 cents per litre, or $18 for a 60-litre tank; that is a general service claim, not a guaranteed saving.

How should drivers interpret later Easter fuel updates?

Separate WA Government updates from April 2026 describe a different period and do not show that the 2023 article’s price spike happened again. On 31 March 2026, Consumer Protection said a fuel-excise reduction taking effect on 1 April could take days or longer to reach retail prices while retailers sold existing stock and received new wholesale deliveries. The release also advised: “Drivers are also urged to only purchase the fuel they need to fill their vehicles, not to stockpile.” WA Government release, 31 March 2026.

A 3 April 2026 update said fuel supply continued to operate effectively while localised disruptions occurred, and reported more than 5 million FuelWatch visits in March. On 10 April, the WA Government said stations reporting stockouts had fallen from 61 the previous Friday to 18 of 771 statewide. The update described supply as operating effectively while localised disruptions continued; these were statewide figures, not a Perth-only count or evidence of a Perth price spike.
