Perth’s most expensive reported stations in 2021
BP South Fremantle was the most expensive outlet on PerthNow’s list, with a reported 2021 average of 158.0 cents per litre. Two other stations near the top of that list were Ampol Foodary Warnbro at 157.6 cents per litre and Ampol Foodary Morley at 157.5 cents per litre. These are FuelWatch figures as reported by PerthNow, not live pump prices.

How high Perth prices rose during 2021
PerthNow reported that prices averaged 26 cents per litre more than in 2020. It said Perth’s average reached 182.4 cents per litre on both 3 and 17 November 2021, and that Better Choice Stratton set a daily record of 196.9 cents per litre on 3 November. These are the report’s figures, not an independent recalculation.
The article cited the shift from a weekly to a fortnightly price cycle, along with international price and supply volatility, as context for the year’s movements. Those factors help explain the reported volatility but do not make the annual averages a guide to what any station charges now.
Where to check current petrol prices in Perth
Use the official WA FuelWatch service to compare current local prices. Consumer Protection says it displays standard cash prices and covers every fuel retailer in Western Australia. Prices vary by site, so check the station and fuel type you plan to use rather than relying on a citywide historical ranking.
- Open FuelWatch and search or use its map to find fuel sites and prices in your area.
- Compare the listed standard cash prices for the fuel type you need.
- Check when the prices apply: retailers notify FuelWatch of next-day prices by 2pm, and the next day’s prices appear after 2:30pm.
- Use the listed price for planning the following day. Under the WA system, the notified price is locked for 24 hours from 6am.
WA Consumer Protection described FuelWatch as a free service in November 2021. Its guidance explains that daily notification and price-lock rules are intended to give motorists certainty rather than intra-day price changes.

Why the 2021 ranking should not guide a fill-up today
An annual average describes prices across a past calendar year; it does not say which station is cheapest on a particular day now. The Costco figure also came with a membership requirement, so it is not directly comparable to a non-membership price without considering access and the fee. For a current trip, compare FuelWatch listings for nearby sites and the fuel you need.
