It was not 992 pounds of freight on top of the person pedaling. The 2024 report also put the vehicle’s own weight at 122 kg (270 lb). Dynamic Drives Giessen’s current product pages use the name INTELLECTRIC and give a separate maximum payload figure of up to 400 kg, so the two ratings should not be treated as one specification.
What does “1,000 pounds” mean for the Intelectra?
New Atlas reported in 2024 that the launch-era Intelectra could carry 450 kg (992 lb) including its rider. The headline-sized figure describes the combined load, not cargo capacity alone. The same report listed the vehicle weight as 122 kg (270 lb). New Atlas’s 2024 report is the source for those launch-era numbers.
Dynamic Drives Giessen’s current FAQ instead says the INTELLECTRIC pedelec has a maximum payload of up to 400 kg. The manufacturer says the exact figure depends on configuration and intended use, and directs buyers to the operating and assembly instructions for exact specifications. That current figure and New Atlas’s earlier 450 kg figure come from different contexts; neither should be silently substituted for the other.
How does its pedal-by-wire drive work?
The rider turns a generator at the pedals. That electricity powers the wheel motors, rather than a chain mechanically transmitting pedal force to a drive wheel. Dynamic Drives describes the arrangement as its serial-hybrid iSHS system. The company’s drive-system page lists assistance up to 25 km/h, push assistance, reverse, three assistance levels and regenerative braking.

The manufacturer’s FAQ describes it this way: “The INTELLECTRIC drive system (iSHS) is a serial hybrid drive system without a traditional chain or mechanical transmission.” This is the company’s product description, not an independent assessment.
What are the current battery and range claims?
The current system page specifies a 48 V system and support for up to two interchangeable batteries, each rated at 1.44 kWh. Dynamic Drives’ homepage states a range of up to approximately 93 km; New Atlas also reported up to 93 km for the 2024 vehicle, depending on load and configuration. Treat 93 km as a manufacturer-reported maximum, not a tested range or a promise for a heavily loaded bike. Actual range will depend on the chosen setup and operating conditions.

Who is the current INTELLECTRIC cargo bike for?
Dynamic Drives presents the INTELLECTRIC as a modular, heavy-duty pedelec for professional work, including trades, municipalities, service providers and logistics. The company lists tools, machinery, building materials, Euroboxes and standardized containers among potential cargo uses; it also describes configurable passenger transport. Those are intended applications, not proof that every body or configuration can carry every listed load.
The manufacturer says the vehicle is under one meter wide and suitable for bike-lane use. That is the company’s description; it does not establish that a particular configuration is permitted on every route or in every jurisdiction. Check the exact vehicle and local rules before planning routes.

What does it cost?
Dynamic Drives’ current FAQ lists the L model from €9,650, with the price depending on body, equipment and configuration. The company’s homepage says the listed price excludes the battery, shipping and accessories. It is therefore a starting price, not an all-in quote; ask the manufacturer for a current price for the required setup.

- Payload definition: Confirm whether the stated limit includes the rider, and request the rating for the chosen frame, body and intended use.
- Cargo fit: Check usable cargo volume, container compatibility and whether the required passenger or equipment setup changes capacity.
- Route access: Verify actual width, turning needs and route rules rather than relying on a general bike-lane claim.
- Range under load: Ask how battery count and cargo weight affect the distance expected in your working conditions.
