The Peak Performance Ultralight Nest 5.5 is a compact hard-side slide-in camper with a manufacturer-listed dry weight of 525 pounds and a stated fit for truck beds 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 9 inches long when the tailgate remains installed. Those figures describe this specific configuration—not a guarantee that it fits or is safe for every truck. Check bed and tie-down compatibility, payload, and loaded axle weights before buying.
What is the Peak Performance Ultralight Nest?
The Ultralight Nest is Peak Performance Campers’ hard-side pickup camper. The manufacturer describes it as a composite-panel design with a modular interior, rather than a pop-up camper. Its compact-length 5.5-foot version is designed to slide into a pickup bed. Peak Performance Campers’ Ultralight Nest 5.5 page lists its current configuration details.
The page displayed a price of $21,000 when accessed in 2026. Treat that as a time-sensitive listed price, not a guaranteed final price: options and selected modules can affect the total, so request a current itemized quote.
What truck bed fits the Nest 5.5?
Peak Performance lists the Nest 5.5 for beds 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 9 inches long with the tailgate kept on. It says shorter beds can be used with the tailgate removed. That published range is specific to the Nest 5.5; it does not establish clearance, mounting compatibility, or safe fitment on a particular make, model, and year of truck.

How much does the Nest weigh, and can your truck carry it?
The manufacturer lists the Nest 5.5 at 525 pounds dry. Dry weight is not the same as the camper’s weight as you travel: options, installed modules, water, occupants, and gear add load. The truck’s payload rating is a starting point, not proof that a loaded setup is within every limit.

- Find the truck’s ratings. Check the payload information for your exact truck and its gross vehicle and axle weight ratings. Use the vehicle’s own labels and documentation, since capacity varies by configuration.
- Build a realistic loaded-weight estimate. Start with the camper’s 525-pound manufacturer-listed dry weight, then add selected options and modules, occupants, water, food, and other cargo.
- Check axle limits and installation. A total payload comparison alone does not show how weight is distributed. Confirm loaded axle weights and the required tie-down arrangement.
- Get configuration-specific confirmation. Ask Peak Performance and, where needed, your truck dealer or a qualified installer to confirm compatibility for the fully equipped setup.
What construction and modular features does Peak Performance list?
Peak Performance describes the Nest as R8 hard-side composite construction and advertises “Zero Wood. 100% Composite.” The R8 rating and construction description are manufacturer claims, not independent test results or a guarantee of suitability for a particular climate or season.
The manufacturer also advertises more than 120 Modu-Lok mounting points, each with a stated 100-pound holding force. Those figures are likewise its claims; they should not be treated as independently verified load ratings for every installation or use.

Its examples include kitchen, storage, and power modules, as well as combinations involving a fridge module, power bench, kitchenette, and swivel dinette. Examples describe possible configurations; they do not establish that every component is included in the base price.
Listed floor-plan choices include a standard floor, a mud-room/shower-pan arrangement, and a wet-bath option. Confirm which layout and modules are available for the order you are considering and how they affect price, weight, and usable space.

Peak Performance’s page lists or describes the following as standard or included equipment for the Nest 5.5:
- Mattress and bench cushions, each described as 3-inch and waterproof in the included-items list.
- R8 hard-side construction and two body windows; the feature list identifies two large windows and a Tern entry door.
- Modu-Lok storage and mounting studs, a modular layout system, and interior and exterior L-track.

How does the Nest differ from the Ultralight Stealth?
The Nest is the hard-side model in this comparison. Peak Performance also sells the Ultralight Stealth line, which has pop-up/soft-side configurations and separate hard-side options depending on the model. Bed fit and weight are model-specific, so Stealth specifications should not be applied to the Nest.
| Model or figure | Manufacturer-listed bed fit | Dry weight | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultralight Nest 5.5 | 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 9 inches with tailgate retained; shorter beds may be used with tailgate removed | 525 lb | Current Nest 5.5 page, accessed 2026; confirm fit for the specific truck. Manufacturer product page |
| Ultralight Stealth 8′ | Designed for 8-foot beds on midsize trucks or shorter beds with tailgate removed | 625 lb | Separate Stealth configuration, not a Nest specification. Manufacturer product page |
| Nest launch estimate for a 5-foot midsize bed | 5-foot midsize bed | Estimated 500 lb | Historical 2025 launch coverage; different date and configuration from the current 5.5-foot Nest page. New Atlas report |
For a buying decision, use the current manufacturer specification for the exact model and configuration you plan to order. The earlier 500-pound launch estimate is not an alternative current weight for the 5.5-foot page’s 525-pound listing.
