Two historic cars are linked to Paul McCartney in auction records: a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 and a 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2. The surviving accounts describe former, not current, ownership—and they do not establish how many cars McCartney owns today or whether either car remains in his possession.
What the records say about McCartney’s cars
The evidence supports a focused look at two cars, not a complete inventory of a “massive” garage. The DB5 is described in reporting on a Bonhams offering; the Lamborghini appears in a 2018 RM Sotheby’s listing, which explicitly qualifies McCartney’s former ownership as “believed.” Those differences matter: neither account verifies McCartney’s present collection.
The 1964 Aston Martin DB5
A 2017 McCartney Times report reproducing Classic and Performance Car auction reporting about a Bonhams offering says this DB5 left Aston Martin’s Newport Pagnell factory on July 3, 1964. It says the car was delivered to McCartney’s accountants, had been ordered before the Beatles’ summer 1964 world tour, and was registered in McCartney’s name. The report describes it as believed to be his first Aston Martin. These are details attributed to the sale reporting, rather than independently established ownership records. McCartney Times’ account of the DB5 sale.
Specification and personal touches
The sale report describes the car’s original finish as Sierra Blue with a black interior, and lists a ZF five-speed gearbox. Its most distinctive feature was a Philips Auto-Mignon record player installed in the car. The reporting also mentions musical-note upholstery. It is an unusually apt detail for a musician’s car, but the underlying claims should be understood as the auction account’s description.

The 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2
RM Sotheby’s 2018 listing identifies the car as chassis 01141, a 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 by Touring, and says it was “believed to have been owned by Sir Paul McCartney.” The listing says the car was reportedly delivered in February 1968 and registered SLF 406F. It notes that McCartney’s ownership is mentioned in three modern Lamborghini books: Andrew Moreland’s Lamborghini Supreme Amongst Exotics, Chris Harvey’s Lamborghini, and David Hodges’s Lamborghini: The Legend. That is supporting context for a reported association, not proof that the ownership claim is certain. RM Sotheby’s 2018 lot listing.
A correction to the car’s story
RM Sotheby’s added a correction to its printed catalog: further research found that this Lamborghini did not appear in the footage attributed to it in the catalog’s Beatles Anthology claim. The listing should not be used as support for saying the car appeared in that footage.

What happened after the reported McCartney connection
The 2018 listing says the Lamborghini remained in the UK after leaving McCartney’s ownership, was acquired by another owner in 1979, and was bought by the listing’s “current custodian” in 2011 before being shipped to Hong Kong. “Current custodian” describes the situation as presented in that 2018 listing; it does not establish the car’s owner or location in 2026.

McCartney’s own view of luxury cars
In a 1984 Playboy interview, McCartney said: “We can be really flash and have a Rolls-Royce for each finger, but I just don’t get anything off that!” The transcript also records his dislike of chauffeurs and his account of giving up that lifestyle. It offers a historical glimpse of his attitude, not a current statement about cars or ownership. 1984 interview transcript hosted by Beatles.ru.
