Outside Van’s Baseline 144 starts at $89,000 with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis included. It is a foundational conversion for buyers who want to finish their own van—not a turnkey camper: power, heating and water systems are excluded. The longer Baseline 170 currently starts at $110,000, also with chassis included. Outside Van’s current Baseline listing is the source for both prices and the package details.
What the $89,000 Baseline 144 price covers
The listed $89,000 is a manufacturer starting price for the Baseline 144, with the chassis included. Outside Van describes Baseline as a starter conversion for 2019-and-newer Mercedes-Benz Sprinter base cargo van chassis in 144- or 170-inch wheelbases, with 4WD/AWD configurations described on its product page. The price should not be treated as a completed-build budget: the listing does not establish taxes, registration, delivery or the cost of additions needed for a particular trip.
The conversion supplies a substantial interior foundation:
- Removable three-panel bed system
- T-Vent windows and powered venting
- Dimmable ceiling lights and a dimmer relay
- Insulation and sound damping
- Precision-cut wall, ceiling and floor panels
- Wire passthroughs, infrastructure and available fuse locations for future additions
- Wheel-well boxes, a fire extinguisher and a CO₂ detector
Outside Van calls it a “head start” for building an adventure van. That framing matters: the included work is a base to build on, not a promise that the van is ready for every style of camping.

What is not included—and why it changes the budget
Outside Van explicitly excludes power, heating and water systems, leaving buyers to source and install them. Someone who intends to camp away from hookups may need to add some or all of these systems; a buyer who mostly camps where facilities are available may have different requirements. The package price alone cannot answer what the finished van will cost.
The company’s Baseline foundation article describes pre-wired 12-volt pathways and gives a Goal Zero Yeti 1500 as one example of a battery that could be added. It is an example, not an included item or a universal recommendation. A portable battery by itself should not be assumed to meet every buyer’s electrical needs, and the article does not establish compatibility for every van configuration.

Before estimating a finished build, decide what the van must support: how long you expect to camp between hookups, whether you need heat, what water use you plan, and which appliances or devices need power. Then price and verify the components and installation for that use case. There is no single all-in total established by the manufacturer’s starting-price listing.

Both prices are manufacturer starting prices, not totals for a finished build. The longer version costs $21,000 more at the current listed starting prices. The extra length may suit a buyer who needs more room, but the available listing does not quantify usable interior space or establish how much a completed build will cost in either size.

An earlier New Atlas report gave a $96,000 figure for the 170-inch version in 2025. That is historical secondary reporting; it differs from Outside Van’s current $110,000 starting price, which is the relevant figure for present price context.

Outside Van lists several separately offered items on its build-out page: an overhead storage shelf for high-roof 2019-and-newer Sprinters, a removable L-Track-compatible Switchback Cabinet, a rear bumper step, 17×8-inch wheels, a dual 6-inch light and bracket kit, and a spare-tire carrier. The page also lists a replacement rock ring for its wheel. These are optional accessories; the listing does not say they are needed for light camping.

How to judge whether Baseline fits your plans
- Choose the wheelbase around your layout needs. Compare the 144-inch and 170-inch starting prices and the listed window differences, then consider how much room your intended build requires.
- Separate the foundation from the finished van. The bed, ventilation, lighting, insulation and interior panels are included; power, heat and water are not.
- Build a use-case budget. Identify the systems your trips require and source compatible components and installation costs before treating the starting price as your budget.
- Keep optional accessories in their place. Add-ons can support a particular setup, but the manufacturer does not present them as prerequisites for light camping.
