Outrider’s Coyote is a single-seat electric off-road vehicle designed to help people with reduced mobility take part in outdoor recreation. The “world’s lightest 4×4” wording comes from Outrider’s claim, as reported by New Atlas in 2022; the available sources do not independently verify that record. For current planning, Outrider’s FAQ gives a 17 mph top speed and terrain-dependent range estimates that are more useful than the launch-era figures.
What the Coyote is—and who it is designed to serve
The Coyote is a specialty mobility-oriented off-road vehicle, not a conventional car or a general-purpose wheelchair. Its single-seat electric design is intended to let riders with reduced mobility participate in outdoor activities over terrain that may be difficult to navigate with other mobility equipment. That does not mean it will suit every disabled person or every outdoor setting; riders’ access needs, preferred activities and environments differ.
New Atlas’s May 3, 2022 launch-era report described the Coyote as an all-electric off-road vehicle for people with reduced mobility. It quoted paraplegic test driver Daylan Carver saying, “the only thing that would be better than this would be walking.” That is one test driver’s reaction, not a guarantee of the experience for other riders. New Atlas’s 2022 report also presented “world’s lightest” as an Outrider claim rather than a verified comparative record.
Current range and performance figures
Outrider’s current FAQ lists a 17 mph top speed and says range depends on rider weight, speed, terrain, hills and wind. Its estimates are per battery pack, not a single guaranteed distance for every Coyote configuration:

These are manufacturer estimates, not independently measured results. Outrider’s FAQ recommends a maximum rider weight of 275 lb.
Configuration matters. Outrider’s Coyote overview says four battery bays, when fully occupied, can provide more than 100 miles of off-road range. That company statement describes a particular battery configuration; it should not be read as the expected distance from one pack or from every terrain. The 80–140-mile top-configuration range and 28 mph speed limiter reported in New Atlas’s 2022 article are launch-era figures, not the current FAQ specifications.

Size and transport considerations
Outrider describes the Coyote as compact, but it remains a substantial vehicle to transport. The company’s overview gives approximate dimensions of six feet in length with the footrest attached, or about 61 inches with it removed. With the seat reclined, it is around 33 inches wide and 33 inches tall. These are approximate manufacturer-published dimensions; check the current vehicle configuration and your transport setup before planning storage or loading.
Water exposure, warranty and service
Outrider describes the Coyote as water-resistant, not waterproof. Its FAQ advises against submerging the vehicle or exposing it to salt water, so water crossings and coastal use require particular caution.

The manufacturer’s FAQ specifies a two-year warranty for non-wear mechanical and electrical components, including remote shop labor and replacement parts, and a four-year warranty for the high-performance lithium battery pack. Outrider says service can be handled by shops that work on electric recumbent trikes or bikes, as well as powersports dealers servicing ATVs and dirt bikes. Confirm that the stated coverage, exclusions and service arrangements apply to the vehicle and location you are considering.

Outrider’s FAQ says that with ADA signage the Coyote is considered a personal mobility device and can travel where pedestrians can go, including National Parks. That is the manufacturer’s description, not independently verified legal guidance or blanket permission for every trail, park or public-land unit. Contact the relevant land manager before a trip to confirm whether the vehicle is permitted and whether local conditions or rules apply.

What to verify before choosing a Coyote
- Ask Outrider for a range estimate based on your planned terrain, rider weight and battery configuration; the FAQ’s per-pack estimates vary substantially by conditions.
- Confirm the dimensions and loading requirements against your vehicle, ramp, storage space or other transport method.
- Check water-exposure limits for the route and confirm warranty coverage, local service options and any applicable exclusions.
- Contact each park or land manager directly about access rather than relying on a general manufacturer statement.
