Oruga’s Unitrack is a developing electric off-road vehicle built around three wheels inside one proprietary track. Its makers say the design is intended for sand, mud, rocks and snow, but the available sources do not independently verify those capabilities. Nor do they establish that customers can buy one: as of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency’s November 26, 2025 update, Oruga was seeking an investor to create its first production facility.
What is the Oruga Unitrack?
The Unitrack is a Latvian electric all-terrain vehicle that resembles a motorcycle but uses a single, proprietary track around three wheels. New Atlas described the wheels as large balloon tires and reported that an electric motor and battery power the vehicle. Its distinctive feature is not simply a track replacing conventional tires: Oruga’s design aims to use the track’s geometry to help the vehicle steer.
Oruga was founded in Latvia in 2023. The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) reported that the company developed its first Unitrack prototype in-house in eight months, attributing that development history to Oruga. LIAA’s company profile describes a project and prototype, not a confirmed retail product.
How does it steer?
New Atlas reported that the track bends around the lower front wheel when the vehicle turns. The article put the turning radius at approximately six meters and questioned whether that wide circle would make the machine awkward in the tight terrain it is meant to tackle. That is a report-era figure, not an independently measured specification, and the sources available do not provide a tested account of handling in real-world conditions.

Oruga co-founder and CEO Liene Vītola described the design challenge to LIAA: “Until now, caterpillar tracks have always moved only forward or backward.” The company’s concept is intended to make a single-track vehicle more maneuverable than that conventional forward-and-backward movement suggests; how well it works in practice remains unverified by the cited coverage.
What terrain is it designed for?
LIAA says the Unitrack is intended for sand, mud, rocks and snow. The agency’s November 2025 account also relays Oruga’s claims that the vehicle can help extract itself from difficult conditions and that only the track touches the ground, reducing the chance of the underbody getting hung up.

These are stated design goals and company claims, not independent findings. The available sources do not report controlled or comparative tests of traction, self-extraction, durability or reliability. A company presentation also claimed that the vehicle’s ground-contact area is four times that of quad bikes and 13 times that of motorcycles, but gives no methodology or independent validation for those comparisons. Oruga’s website is the company source for its project and claims.
Is the Unitrack in production or available to buy?
Current production, customer orders, price and delivery availability are not established by the available sources. New Atlas reported in April 2024 that Oruga planned to begin manufacturing an initial run of 100 vehicles in Latvia in 2025; that was a forward-looking plan, not evidence that production or deliveries took place. At the time, New Atlas said pricing and further details were unavailable. Its April 2024 report should not be read as a current sales listing.

The more recent status located here is LIAA’s November 26, 2025 update: Oruga was seeking a strategic investor to establish its first production facility and developing a next-generation model it expected to become production-ready. That update does not confirm that a facility was subsequently built, that the Unitrack can now be ordered, or what a production version would cost.

Rokon is a useful reference point for riders interested in vehicles designed to reach remote terrain, but it is not a direct equivalent to the Unitrack. New Atlas describes Rokon as a long-established, two-wheel-drive motorcycle using balloon tires, with a history in the niche dating to 1957. The Unitrack, by contrast, combines three wheels with a single track and an electric powertrain. The cited coverage does not provide current model-by-model prices or comparable performance measurements, so it cannot establish which is better for a particular rider.

For any comparison, the practical questions are how each machine steers, what traction system it uses, which terrain claims have been tested, and whether the vehicle is actually available in your region. In the Unitrack’s case, the cited capability figures and terrain descriptions remain claims rather than independent test results.
