The OOONO CO-DRIVER NO2 is a useful screen-free driving companion, but it is not a radar detector and it cannot know about every camera. It connects to your phone over Bluetooth and uses the OOONO app, location data and community reports to warn about speed cameras, hazards and traffic incidents. That makes it appealing for short trips when you do not want to start Waze or another navigation app. It is less compelling if you already run a reliable navigation app on every journey, or if you expect a self-contained device that detects police radar.
At the listed price of €79.95, with no required subscription, the NO2 is best understood as a convenience purchase: a small button and light ring that bring some of your phone’s driving alerts into the background.
What the OOONO CO-DRIVER NO2 actually does
The NO2 does not physically scan for radar or laser signals. It has no radar receiver and cannot detect a police vehicle’s transmission. Instead, it receives warnings generated by the OOONO app from community reports and other traffic-data sources, then presents them through audible alerts and the device’s LED ring.
That distinction matters. A GPS- and report-based warning device can alert you to a known fixed camera, a reported mobile-camera location or a road hazard. It cannot guarantee that an unreported camera, newly introduced enforcement site or temporary incident will be covered. Think of it as a quiet warning button for your car, not as an electronic shield against speeding tickets.

How it works once installed
Initial setup requires the current OOONO app, Bluetooth and pairing between the phone and the device. Your phone remains essential: it supplies the location information and mobile-data connection, while the app handles the traffic information and background driving detection.
- Install the current OOONO app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Turn on Bluetooth and pair the NO2 inside the app.
- Grant the location and background permissions requested by your phone’s operating system.
- Make sure the app is allowed to operate in the background and is not restricted by aggressive battery-saving settings.
- Confirm that the phone has a usable mobile-data connection.
- Mount the unit somewhere its light ring and buttons are visible and reachable without taking attention from the road.
- Choose the alert categories and volume before driving.
After that, the intended experience is largely automatic. With the phone present and correctly configured, the NO2 should connect as the journey begins. In practice, “automatic” still depends on Bluetooth, permissions, background activity, battery charge and mobile coverage all behaving properly.
What the lights and sounds mean
| Signal | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Blue flashing | Nearby speed-camera warning |
| Orange flashing | Road-hazard warning |
| White flashing | Speed-limit warning, listed as a beta feature |
| Red flashing with sound | Low battery |
| Three red flashes | Disconnection warning |
The exact alert mix depends on the app’s current features and the data available in your area. The device is deliberately less visually demanding than a phone mounted in front of you: the light identifies the general type of warning, while the sound is intended to tell you that something needs your attention.
You can also use the buttons to report an incident, confirm a camera after passing it or dismiss a warning that is no longer relevant. That reporting loop is important because the service depends substantially on users keeping the database current. It also explains why an alert may occasionally remain after a hazard has cleared or why coverage can vary sharply between busy and quiet roads.
Camera and speed-limit coverage
The NO2 can warn about fixed and mobile speed cameras, road hazards and traffic incidents supported by the app and local data sources. It also has camera-zone alerts for stretches where mobile-camera enforcement is known to occur. The cited OOONO support information describes this feature as integrated for UK driving and says it can be enabled or disabled in the app.
Speed-limit warnings are separate from camera warnings and should not be treated as authoritative sign recognition. OOONO describes the feature as beta and says drivers can set a threshold by percentage or by a number of speed units above the permitted limit. The cited support information lists Germany, Denmark, Italy and the UK as supported markets for this feature. Availability and behaviour may change with app updates.

What is good about it?
It reduces the need to interact with a screen
The strongest argument for the NO2 is convenience. You can receive a warning without opening a navigation route, studying a moving map or repeatedly glancing at a phone. The unit’s audible alerts are designed to work in the background, and an independent Stuff review found them loud enough to hear over a car stereo at a sensible volume during its testing.
It suits short, familiar journeys
Starting navigation for every ten-minute trip is often more effort than it is worth. The NO2 is aimed at the gap between “I need full turn-by-turn directions” and “I would still appreciate a warning if a camera or hazard is nearby.” Once configured, it is intended to activate with the drive rather than requiring a fresh setup for every journey.
There is no required recurring subscription
OOONO lists the app and service as requiring no subscription. That improves the ownership proposition compared with products that charge continuously for access to their warning database. You still need a compatible smartphone, mobile data and a charged device, however.
The community model can keep reports useful
Users can report, confirm and dismiss warnings, and reports from CO-DRIVER users are shared with the wider community. In a busy area with active users, that can make temporary hazards and mobile-camera locations more useful than a static list. The reverse is also true: quieter areas may have fewer recent reports.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →It can work alongside CarPlay and Android Auto
OOONO says the NO2 supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the OOONO navigation experience. That does not mean warning pins will automatically appear inside every other navigation app. The visible pins remain within the OOONO app rather than being inserted into unrelated navigation applications.
The limitations are significant
It is completely phone-dependent
The NO2 is not an independent detector. If your phone is absent, Bluetooth is disabled, the app cannot run in the background, location access is restricted, battery-saving software suspends the app or mobile data is unavailable, the core warning function can be impaired. A disconnection signal is helpful, but it is not a substitute for checking the system before a long drive.

Coverage is not guaranteed
No report-based service can promise every camera or hazard. Fixed cameras may be missing from the database, mobile enforcement can move, and an old incident can remain until someone dismisses it. OOONO’s own support guidance includes procedures for dealing with outdated warnings, which is a reminder that the database is live and fallible rather than an official, perfect register.
Free apps may already do enough
Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps and similar services can provide overlapping camera, hazard and speed-limit warnings in some regions. An independent TechRadar review also treated the NO2’s main advantage as convenience and reduced screen interaction rather than exclusive information.
If you already start Waze on every journey and your phone is safely integrated with your car, the NO2 may add little beyond a separate button and audio channel. If you often drive without navigation, its automatic background operation is a more persuasive reason to buy.
Battery life depends on the model and use
OOONO describes the device family as rechargeable. The company’s technical material gives up to one month until recharge for the NO2 Plus, while independent testing of the ordinary NO2 reported roughly two weeks and considered the longer claim plausible. Those figures should not be treated as a guaranteed result for every NO2 owner: alert frequency, connection behaviour and battery condition all affect runtime.
Keep the charging cable in the car if you regularly make long trips or share the device between vehicles. A USB-C car charger can be a practical accessory if your vehicle does not already provide a convenient USB-C charging point.
Privacy and permissions
The app needs background location access to determine that you are driving and to provide location-based warnings. That is a functional requirement, not an optional extra if you want the automatic alert system to work properly.
There is also a privacy trade-off. The app’s App Store privacy information says the developer may link location, contact information, identifiers and user content to the user for app functionality and related purposes. App privacy disclosures can change, so review the current listing and OOONO’s privacy documentation before enabling background location. Drivers who do not want a safety app collecting location-related information may reasonably prefer a navigation setup they already understand, or no warning service at all.

Is the OOONO NO2 legal?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer. OOONO lists the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland and more than 80 other countries as supported, but it also warns that legal rules differ by country. Technical availability is not the same as legal approval.
Germany is a particularly important example. Current guidance from ADAC states that automated warnings about speed-measurement installations are prohibited for drivers, including radar-warning apps and navigation functions that display cameras. That means the NO2’s ability to provide a warning in Germany does not mean using that warning function while driving is lawful.
For Great Britain, speed cameras are established enforcement tools, but the existence of cameras does not by itself settle every question about warning devices. Before using the NO2 abroad, check the law in each country and, where relevant, each jurisdiction you will drive through. Obey posted speed limits regardless of whether the device alerts.
Who should buy it?
The NO2 makes sense if you:
- make frequent short trips without running navigation;
- want audible, low-interaction warnings rather than another map screen;
- are comfortable keeping a phone connected in the car;
- drive mostly in areas with active OOONO coverage;
- understand that reports are supplementary, not guaranteed; and
- have checked that camera-warning services are permitted where you drive.
It is harder to justify if you:
- already use Waze or another capable navigation app on every trip;
- want a genuine radar or laser detector;
- dislike granting background location access;
- drive mainly in places with weak community coverage; or
- regularly drive in jurisdictions that restrict camera-warning functions.
Setup and troubleshooting checklist
Before relying on the NO2, confirm all of the following:
- The device has charge.
- Bluetooth is enabled.
- The phone is paired in the OOONO app.
- Location access includes the background permission required by your operating system.
- The app is excluded from restrictive battery-saving or app-sleep settings.
- Mobile data works on the roads where you intend to drive.
- The alert categories and volume are configured while parked.
- The device is mounted within easy reach without requiring a dangerous reach or glance.
- The warning function is lawful in the country or region where you are driving.
If you see the three-flash red disconnection signal, check Bluetooth range, phone availability and the app connection before assuming the database has no warning. If an alert is clearly outdated, use the relevant dismiss control when safe to do so. Never operate the buttons in a way that distracts you from driving.
Verdict
The OOONO CO-DRIVER NO2 earns its place by making a familiar phone feature easier to use. It is small, automatic, rechargeable and quiet between alerts, with audible and visual warnings that can be useful on everyday trips. The no-subscription model is another advantage.
But it remains only as useful as the phone connection and the reports behind it. It does not detect police radar, cannot see every camera and cannot replace attention to the road. For drivers who want a discreet warning companion on short UK or European journeys, subject to local law, it is a sensible convenience buy. For anyone already using Waze on every trip, the extra hardware is much harder to justify.
