BMW Group vocational trainees turned a test-returned X7 into a one-off, five-seat pickup at the company’s Munich plant. BMW unveiled it at Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on July 5, 2019, and said it had no plans for series production.
What was the BMW X7 pickup?
It was a bespoke conversion of a BMW X7, not a production model or a customer order option. Trainees worked with BMW’s Concept Vehicle Construction and Model Technology divisions to save a vehicle returned from testing from being scrapped and convert it into a functional show vehicle.
BMW’s French-language announcement says twelve trainees completed the road-legal build in ten months. Those are BMW-reported project details, not the results of independent testing.
How was it different from a standard X7?
The conversion retained the drive technology of the BMW X7 xDrive40i while replacing the rear cargo area with an open load bed behind a five-person cabin. BMW specified a handcrafted, finely polished wood bed floor and height-adjustable two-level air suspension.

The 2019 announcement also listed combined fuel consumption of 9.0–8.7 l/100 km and combined CO₂ emissions of 205–198 g/km for the X7 xDrive40i specification, with EU6d-TEMP noted. These are historical figures for the drivetrain basis cited in that release, not current-model figures or independent measurements of the pickup conversion.
Why was a BMW F 850 GS shown with it?
BMW placed an F 850 GS adventure motorcycle on the pickup bed for the Motorrad Days presentation. The pairing illustrated the bed’s intended utility in the show display; it did not represent a production pickup-and-motorcycle package.

Could you buy the X7 pickup?
No production version was announced. BMW described the vehicle as a one-off vocational training project and explicitly said series implementation was not planned, so the announcement gave no customer availability, price, or ordering details.
