The important distinction: the article described those systems as driver assistance, not driverless driving. A person still had to watch the road and be ready to take over.
What the 2021 report described
Ashley Bardhan’s November 16, 2021 Futurism feature reported on adult videos filmed inside Teslas while Autopilot or Full Self-Driving was engaged. It framed the activity as a provocative media gimmick, but the car’s automation did not make the driver’s role disappear.
The feature did not measure how common the practice was. It offered reported examples and interviewees’ opinions, not a count of performers, videos, or drivers.
Autopilot is not the same as a driverless car
In the feature’s account at the time of publication, Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving still required an attentive human driver who could intervene. That is a historical description from 2021, not current Tesla product documentation or a claim about present-day capabilities.

The distinction matters because “on Autopilot” can sound as though the car is handling the whole trip. The article instead described a driver-assistance situation: the human remained responsible for monitoring and responding. It did not describe a genuinely driverless vehicle.
What the interviewees said—and what their remarks establish
Tesla Taylor described her own use
Performer Tesla Taylor told Bardhan that she had used Autopilot in videos and described her own practices. She also cautioned against doing it, saying: “I can definitely see car sex becoming more popular once Full Self-Driving is widely adopted and people become comfortable using it,” but “as of right now, I would not recommend doing it. It is very dangerous if you’re not familiar with the car and how Autopilot acts.” Bardhan reported that Taylor shared her statement through Twitter direct message. Her description is a personal account, not verified operating guidance.

Jordan Golson warned about overconfidence
Transportation reporter Jordan Golson cautioned that “The car appears to be much more capable than it is,” and warned that a problem could have serious consequences. He also said, “Someday it’ll be fine. It is not that day yet.” These are his views as quoted in the feature, not a measurement of system performance.
Geoffrey Celen called it a gimmick
Geoffrey Celen, proprietor of The Porn Dude, described Tesla-themed porn as a topical variation on familiar adult-media formulas. His prediction that interest might grow was an interviewee’s opinion; the feature supplied no audience data to support a prevalence or growth claim.

Why distraction is the central safety issue
The headline’s shock value can pull attention toward the sexual content, but the practical safety issue is distraction while a person remains responsible for driving. If the system needs intervention, a driver focused on filming or other activity may be less prepared to notice and respond. The feature’s account does not establish how any particular video was filmed or whether a collision occurred, so neither should be inferred from the reported examples.
Because the source is a 2021 report rather than a current manual, regulation, or safety study, it cannot establish today’s Tesla feature behavior, policy, or applicable law. The article’s durable point is narrower: using driver assistance does not by itself remove the need for an attentive driver.
