In an April 2026 interview, global product strategy chief Richard Candler said the company was looking closely at its sports-car lineup and that he would like to bring back the Silvia nameplate. CEO Ivan Espinosa has also voiced interest. Neither set of comments establishes an approved model, launch date, price, or specifications.
What Nissan’s product chief said about the Silvia
In an interview published April 16, 2026, The Drive reported that Richard Candler, Nissan’s global corporate product strategy chief, said: “We are really deeply looking at the sports [car] lineup again.” He also said, “I’d love to bring back that nameplate.”
Those remarks show that Candler is interested in the Silvia and that Nissan is reconsidering its sports-car lineup. They do not announce a Silvia development program or commit Nissan to putting one into production.
Has Nissan confirmed a new Silvia?
No. CEO Ivan Espinosa has also expressed interest: in April 2026, he said a Silvia would fit if he could make it happen soon. Nissan North America planning chief Ponz Pandikuthira described Espinosa as a fan of accessible sports cars, according to The Drive’s report. These comments reinforce leadership interest, but do not confirm that Nissan has approved a car.
#1 Best Overall
- Brand new box.
- Real rubber tires.
- Has opening doors.
- Detailed interior, exterior.
- Officially licensed product.
Nissan’s official March 10, 2026 presentation identifies Espinosa as the company’s President and CEO; it does not announce a Silvia. In a 2024 Top Gear interview, Espinosa had already discussed the difficulty of finding the right formula for a possible Silvia. That earlier discussion is background to his interest, not evidence that the car is now in development.

The reported interviews do not establish a launch date, price, powertrain, platform, dimensions, body style, drive layout, or sales markets. Nissan has not identified a production configuration or announced rivals for a new Silvia. Any specific claims about those details would be speculation rather than confirmed product information.
Rank #2
For now, the accurate description is that Nissan leaders have shown interest in bringing the nameplate back while the company looks again at its sports-car lineup. Whether that interest becomes an approved production car remains unknown.
