The key shopping question is therefore not simply which SUV has the newest announcement. It is whether the exact vehicle and trim you can buy will carry your family comfortably, with the luggage you need, at a current price you can verify. This guide uses the Alcazar as a confirmed example and lays out a fair way to compare it with other three-row vehicles; it does not claim to rank the entire market.

First, separate the Tekton from Nissan’s seven-seat plans
Nissan’s 9 July 2026 launch announcement describes the Tekton as a premium C-SUV and reports its launch in India. It does not identify the Tekton as a seven-seater. Nissan had separately announced a seven-seat C-SUV in its India roadmap, with an early-2027 target at the time. That was a plan, not a guarantee of its current release date or availability.

In short, don’t treat “Nissan’s new SUV” and “Nissan’s planned seven-seater” as the same vehicle. If you need three rows before Nissan’s separate model is confirmed and available to buy, assess an on-sale three-row vehicle on its own merits rather than waiting on a roadmap date.
There is another reason not to make the Tekton a stand-in for a seven-seater: the two announcements answer different questions. The Tekton release gives information about a launched C-SUV, including introductory prices and engine outputs. The roadmap announcement identifies a separate vehicle as a seven-seat C-SUV, but a planned launch window does not tell you its final price, trim walk, delivery schedule, or exact equipment. Until Nissan confirms those details, shoppers cannot make a complete purchase comparison between the two.
Nissan’s launch statement reports 700 litres of Tekton boot space. That figure should not be read as proof of the luggage room available in a seven-seat vehicle with every seat occupied. The announcement excerpt does not establish a directly comparable seat position or measurement basis. For a family that needs all three rows regularly, inspect the actual cargo area behind the raised third row of each candidate rather than relying on a headline capacity number.

Hyundai Alcazar: a verified six- or seven-seat option
Hyundai Motor India lists the Alcazar in both six- and seven-seat layouts. Its listed engines are a 1.5L Turbo GDi petrol and a 1.5L U2 CRDi diesel. Transmission choices depend on engine and trim: Hyundai lists a six-speed manual, a seven-speed DCT, and a six-speed automatic. The six-seat configuration uses captain seats; the seven-seat configuration uses a bench arrangement, according to Hyundai’s feature matrix. Confirm the exact configuration on the specific trim you are considering rather than assuming every Alcazar has the same seating or equipment.
That six-versus-seven-seat distinction is practical, not just a specification-sheet detail. A six-seat cabin has two individual seats in the second row; a seven-seat version has a bench there. If you regularly need to carry a seventh passenger, verify that the quoted Alcazar is the bench-layout version. If six occupants are your usual maximum, compare the actual seat arrangement and access that each configuration gives your family rather than assuming the higher seat count is automatically the better choice.
The engine and gearbox list also needs to be read at trim level. A model-level page can show several powertrain choices without every combination being available on every grade. Ask a dealer to identify the precise engine, transmission, seating configuration, and equipment for the vehicle being quoted. If you want a manual, DCT, or automatic, make sure the exact version exists in the seating layout you need; do not infer that every gearbox can be paired with every trim or seat arrangement.
Hyundai’s price page displayed a starting ex-showroom price of ₹14,50,700 when it was crawled in October 2026. Treat that as a time-sensitive, page-displayed starting figure—not a quote for a particular variant or a guaranteed on-road price. Your chosen trim, city, taxes, insurance, fees, and any current offer affect the amount you are asked to pay; obtain a current, itemised dealer quote before comparing budgets.
A starting price is useful for deciding whether a model belongs on your initial shortlist, but it is not enough to determine what the family’s chosen version costs. The seven-seat configuration, engine, transmission, and equipment level you want may not be the entry version. Compare the actual price of the desired configuration, and keep the date and city attached to every quote so that a displayed website figure is not mistaken for a current local drive-away total.
Why this is a starting point, not a “best of seven” ranking
The available model-specific information supports a detailed look at the Alcazar, but it does not establish a balanced comparison across the Indian seven-seat market. It would be misleading to call one SUV the best overall, rank alternatives on comfort or safety, or imply this is a complete shortlist without comparable, current evidence for the other models. Use the Alcazar as a concrete candidate to inspect, then compare it with other three-row vehicles available in your city using the same criteria below.

In particular, do not treat a list of features as a substitute for a same-day, same-basis comparison. A trim may have equipment another trim lacks, while the price on a website may be an ex-showroom starting figure and a dealer quote may include location-specific charges. A meaningful comparison puts the exact seven-seat version of each vehicle beside the others, then checks seating, luggage, powertrain, safety evidence, ownership terms, and a current on-road quote.

These figures are not a like-for-like value comparison. The Tekton prices are manufacturer-published introductory starting prices for named ranges; the Alcazar figure is a page-displayed ex-showroom starting price. The engines, vehicle classes, seating evidence, and price bases differ. Nissan’s 700-litre boot claim cannot be used to conclude that the Tekton carries more luggage with a full cabin: the announcement does not state a directly comparable three-row measurement condition.

The output figures also describe particular Tekton engine versions, not a general promise that every version has the same performance. Nissan’s product page lists 100 PS and 166 Nm for T160 variants and 163 PS and 280 Nm for T280 variants. The launch release names the T160 manual and the T280 range, with introductory starting prices of ₹10.49 lakh and ₹14.99 lakh respectively. Those manufacturer-published figures are useful for identifying the named ranges, but they are not a quote for a specific city or a guarantee that the same variant or offer remains available. Confirm the current live specification and price with Nissan before making a decision.
The table is best used as a fact-checking tool, not a scorecard. The Tekton information helps establish that Nissan has launched a C-SUV and how its named ranges are described; it does not make the Tekton an alternative for a buyer who has a firm seven-seat requirement. The Alcazar information establishes a six- or seven-seat choice and a set of listed powertrains, but does not by itself establish comfort, safety, reliability, or the best value. Those questions require a visit, variant-specific documents, and comparable model-specific evidence.
How to decide whether a three-row SUV works for your family
1. Confirm the seven-seat version by exact trim
Start with the seating layout, not a model name or a generic “up to seven” claim. Ask the manufacturer or dealer to identify the exact trim, seat arrangement, and transmission on the written quotation. If you are considering the Alcazar, verify that the quoted version is the seven-seat bench configuration; do not mistake the six-seat captain-seat layout for a seven-seater. Check that the actual vehicle you will receive matches the quotation.
When comparing multiple models, write down the seat count and arrangement for each exact version before looking at the rest of the equipment list. Ask whether the number includes the driver, and whether the relevant trim is actually offered in your city. A brochure photo or a general model page may show a different layout from the vehicle the dealer has in stock. If you are ordering rather than buying a displayed vehicle, request written confirmation of the configuration on the booking documents.
Count your regular passengers, not only the largest number you might carry once a year. If the seventh seat is essential for school runs or routine family travel, a six-seat version will not meet the requirement even if it appears to offer more individual seating space. If seven seats are occasional, you may still want a seven-seat trim, but test how the third row folds and how the remaining cabin works when it is not in use. The right answer depends on actual use, not on the seat-count label alone.
2. Try the third row with the people who will use it
Bring the adults or children who are likely to sit in the rear and have them get in, sit down, and leave the vehicle. Check the access route, how easily each person can settle into the seat, and whether the seating position is acceptable for the journeys your family makes. A brochure’s seat count cannot tell you whether your passengers will find the space workable. If children’s seats are part of your routine, take the seats with you and check installation and access in the actual vehicle.
Do the test in the seating arrangement you would buy. Ask the dealer to set up the second and third rows as your family would use them, then check whether a passenger can reach the back without moving a child seat or disrupting someone in the second row. Have the intended third-row passengers enter and exit more than once. A quick sit in a showroom is less revealing than repeating the process as you would at a school, shop, or roadside stop.

Consider the likely journey pattern. A rear seat that works for a short local trip may feel different on a longer drive, especially for an adult. Sit in the third row yourself if possible, and check whether each passenger can settle into a posture they can tolerate. The point is not to apply a universal comfort verdict; it is to see whether the space works for your people and the trips they actually take. No seat-count claim can replace that hands-on test.

If you use child seats, bring the actual seats and the people who help install them. Check whether the chosen seating layout allows the child seat to be fitted as intended, whether the belt or attachment points are accessible, and whether other passengers can still reach their seats. Confirm any fitment instructions with the child-seat and vehicle manufacturers. Do not assume that a child seat that fits one row or one configuration will fit equally well in another.
3. Check luggage space with all three rows in use
Open the boot with the third row raised, then see whether your normal bags fit without obstructing people or visibility. If the family’s luggage needs vary, repeat the check with the rear seats folded and note what changes. Ask the seller how any quoted capacity is measured and which seats are folded or occupied. Do not compare a capacity figure from one vehicle with another unless the seating condition and measurement basis are equivalent.
Bring representative items rather than relying on a mental estimate: the bags you take on a weekend away, a pushchair, sports equipment, or whatever occupies the cargo area in your household. Load them in the order you would normally pack, and check whether the tailgate closes and whether items have to be stacked in a way that interferes with rear visibility. If your family needs a full third row and luggage at the same time, judge the space in that exact configuration. A measurement quoted with the rear seats folded answers a different question.
Ask the salesperson to identify the seat positions used for any advertised cargo-capacity figure. A litre figure may depend on the measurement method, and it may describe a configuration that leaves fewer passengers seated. The Nissan announcement’s 700-litre Tekton claim is not an apples-to-apples comparison with a three-row vehicle’s luggage space because the excerpt does not establish the same seat condition. Avoid using that number to predict how much luggage a family of seven can take.

If you routinely travel with passengers in all three rows, give more weight to the raised-third-row test than to the maximum-cargo figure.
4. Match the powertrain and gearbox to your use
Choose among petrol, diesel, and transmission options based on the kind of driving and ownership that suit you, then compare only trims that provide the configuration you want. The Alcazar’s listed engine and gearbox choices vary with trim; the Tekton launch release’s named introductory price categories distinguish the T160 manual from the T280 range. Confirm the complete variant specification from the manufacturer before treating a price, output, or transmission as available on the version you are considering.
Begin by writing down the driving you expect to do: how often the vehicle will be used, whether most journeys are local or longer, and how many passengers it typically carries. Then ask the dealer for the exact engine and transmission pairing available with the required number of seats. This avoids comparing a powertrain you like on paper with a trim that does not meet the family’s seating requirement. The official Alcazar listings establish petrol and diesel choices and multiple transmissions, but they do not make every combination interchangeable.
Arrange a test drive in the intended configuration if possible. Drive the route and at the passenger load that most closely resemble your normal use, and assess whether the controls and transmission feel appropriate to you. A test drive cannot establish long-term fuel consumption or ownership costs, so ask the manufacturer or dealer for the information relevant to your use and compare it on the same basis across candidates. Also distinguish a range-level figure from a trim-specific specification. Nissan’s 163 PS and 280 Nm figures belong to the T280, while the T160 is listed at 100 PS and 166 Nm. Similarly, the Alcazar’s engine and gearbox options depend on trim. Keep the model, variant, engine, transmission, seat arrangement, and quoted price together in your notes so that figures from different versions do not accidentally get combined.
5. Compare safety and ownership details using evidence
Ask for the equipment list for the precise variant and look for independent crash-test evidence that clearly identifies the same model, specification, and test context. Do not infer a safety ranking from a feature count or from a manufacturer’s general model page. Also compare the warranty terms and service coverage relevant to your city directly with the manufacturer or dealer; the information cited here does not establish a model-to-model winner on safety, reliability, service, or ownership cost.
When reading a safety assessment, check which model year, body style, equipment level, and test protocol it covers. A result for a different market or a differently equipped variant may not describe the vehicle you can buy. Ask the dealer to show the safety equipment list for the exact trim on your quote, and distinguish standard equipment from items limited to higher versions or offered only in a package.
For ownership, request the written warranty terms and confirm what is covered, for how long, and under what conditions. These questions help you compare the practical support available to you, but a general claim about a brand or model is not a substitute for the relevant terms in writing.
Keep your comparison grounded in verifiable details. The manufacturer pages cited here establish listed seating, engine, transmission, and price information for the Alcazar, while the Nissan announcements establish the Tekton launch and roadmap distinction. They do not provide a controlled comparison of crash protection, long-term reliability, service experience, or total ownership cost. If those factors determine your choice, seek evidence that clearly identifies the model and version rather than filling gaps with assumptions.
6. Put current city-specific costs side by side
Request itemised, current on-road quotes for the exact seven-seat trims you are comparing. Keep the ex-showroom price distinct from registration, insurance, other charges, and any offer. A displayed starting price is a useful first reference, but it is not the amount every buyer in every location will pay. Record the quote date and ask the dealer to confirm that the vehicle, seat layout, engine, and transmission shown are the ones included in the price.
For an apples-to-apples check, ask each dealer to list the same kinds of costs and identify optional items separately from items required for the purchase. Confirm whether a quoted offer is current, what conditions apply, and when it expires. Do not compare one dealer’s discounted, itemised on-road figure with another manufacturer’s website starting price and call the difference a saving. The Alcazar’s ₹14,50,700 figure is a page-displayed starting ex-showroom price, not a universal drive-away amount.
Keep the purchase decision distinct from financing assumptions. If you are evaluating a loan, compare the terms offered to you separately and make sure the vehicle price, down payment, tenure, and charges are clear. Should you wait for Nissan’s separate seven-seat model?
Waiting may make sense if you are specifically committed to Nissan and can postpone a purchase until the separate seven-seat C-SUV’s availability and specifications are confirmed. The roadmap timing reported for that vehicle was an early-2027 plan, not a current promise.
