The new electric Nissan Micra shares its AmpR Small platform with the Renault 5, but that does not make the two cars identical. Nissan quotes up to 317 km WLTP for the 40 kWh Micra and up to 416 km for the 52 kWh version. A sub-€20,000 price has been advertised in Spain for specific 40 kWh trims only after campaigns and Plan MOVES III with scrappage; it is not a general European price.
That gives buyers useful starting points, but not enough evidence to declare one car the better buy. Nissan’s published figures describe the Micra; a fair head-to-head also needs current Renault 5 prices and specifications for the same country, plus a direct assessment of design and driving. No such matched comparison is established here.
Is the Nissan Micra EV just a Renault 5?
No. Nissan says the Micra uses the AmpR Small platform shared with the Renault 5, while the Micra was designed by Nissan Design Europe in London. Shared underpinnings establish a technical relationship, not identical styling, equipment, pricing, or driving character. Nissan announced the platform and design details on March 26, 2025.
The “pixels versus nostalgia” question is ultimately about visual taste. Nissan’s announcement describes the Micra’s design as playful and audacious, but a manufacturer description is not an independent styling verdict. Without a documented direct visual or road comparison, there is no sound basis to say that the Micra beats the Renault 5 on design or driving feel.

How far does the electric Micra go?
Nissan Europe publishes maximum WLTP ranges of 317 km for the 40 kWh battery and 416 km for the 52 kWh battery. These are manufacturer-published homologation figures for comparing vehicles, not observed real-world range; actual distance varies with conditions and use. Nissan’s September 11, 2025 release is the source for the later range figures.
The battery choice also affects DC charging power: Nissan lists up to 80 kW for the 40 kWh version and up to 100 kW for the 52 kWh version in its UK Model Year 2025 technical sheet. Both are listed as charging from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes under the stated DC charging specification. The sheet also lists 11 kW AC charging. These are specifications, not a guarantee of the time in every charging session. Nissan UK Model Year 2025 technical sheet.

Can you really buy the Micra for under €20,000?
In Spain, Nissan’s July 15, 2025 newsroom release listed the 40 kWh Acenta at €17,550 and the 40 kWh N-Connecta at €19,650 after campaigns and Plan MOVES III with scrappage. Those advertised figures depend on the specified incentives and eligibility; they are not unconditional prices or a pan-European starting price. Check the offer, scrappage requirement, and buyer eligibility with Nissan in Spain before relying on them. Nissan Spain’s price announcement.
Prices differ by market. Nissan France stated a French starting price of €28,000 in a July 10, 2025 announcement, illustrating why a Spain incentive price cannot be presented as the Micra’s Europe-wide price. That is a dated country-specific figure, not a current quote for every French buyer. Nissan France’s announcement.

For context, Nissan Spain’s same release listed the 52 kWh N-Connecta at €22,600 and Tekna at €25,600 after discounts. These are also Spain-specific, after-discount figures—not a like-for-like comparison with Renault 5 pricing or a universal price list.
What does the Micra offer for everyday use?
Nissan lists a 326-litre luggage capacity with the rear seats up and a 500 kg towing capacity. The Europe release also identifies vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and says the car is ready for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration. Those are manufacturer specifications; the release does not establish the availability or terms of V2G service in every market. Nissan Europe’s specifications.

The UK technical sheet gives the Micra’s overall length as 3,974 mm, wheelbase as 2,541 mm, and kerb weight as 1,377 kg for the 40 kWh version and 1,452 kg for the 52 kWh version. These UK Model Year 2025 figures help describe the car’s dimensions and weight, but they do not establish how much room it offers relative to the Renault 5.
Nissan says the Micra is offered with an aftersales warranty package of up to 10 years, with terms and duration varying by country. The French announcement separately states battery warranty coverage of eight years or 160,000 km. Confirm the applicable warranty terms in the country and for the specific car being considered; neither statement should be treated as a universal promise for every market.

Which one is the better buy?
The available evidence can help narrow the Micra version that suits a buyer, but it cannot settle a Micra-versus-Renault 5 verdict. The Micra’s quoted range, charging, utility, and price are Nissan figures; current Renault 5 prices, trim equipment, and matched specifications are not established here. Comparing one country’s incentive-adjusted Micra price with a Renault 5 price from another market—or comparing unlike trims—would not show which is better value.
Quick Recap
- Consider the Micra’s 40 kWh version if its 317 km WLTP figure meets your needs and you can access a qualifying local offer; the Spain sub-€20,000 examples require the stated campaigns and scrappage-linked Plan MOVES III terms.
- Consider the 52 kWh version if the longer quoted range and up-to-100 kW DC charging matter more; Nissan’s published maximum is 416 km WLTP.
- Before choosing between the two cars, compare current prices for equivalent trims in your country, including incentives you personally qualify for, then check standard equipment, charging, space, warranty terms, and a drive in both.
