The company said its production, sales and model-development plans were proceeding as scheduled. That statement addresses claims about FAW Toyota; it does not establish that every model or dealer transaction in China was unchanged.
What did FAW Toyota say?
FAW Toyota’s October 5 statement called the online claims untrue and said it reserved the right to pursue legal accountability. It specifically referred to claims that “FAW Toyota may completely exit the stage of history” and that “Toyota is making major price cuts.” ITHome reproduced the Chinese statement; the English wording here is a translation, not a separately verified official English quote.
The company also said production, sales and iteration plans for its full model range were proceeding in an orderly way according to plan. This is FAW Toyota’s account of its plans, not independent confirmation of future performance.
Why did the exit rumor surface?
The denial followed a proposed ownership transaction announced by GAC Group on September 28, 2026. Autohome reported that GAC proposed acquiring FAW Group’s 50% stake in FAW Toyota through a share issuance, at a reported proposed price of 5.75 yuan per share. The reports describe a proposal, not a completed sale.

A proposed transfer of FAW Group’s stake is not the same as FAW Toyota closing or Toyota leaving China. Electrek reported that Toyota would retain its 50% stake under the proposed arrangement and that GAC said the deal would not change the controller. Those details describe the proposed terms; the status and final terms could change.
Which Toyota business does the statement cover?
The statement was issued by FAW Toyota Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and concerns claims about FAW Toyota, one of Toyota’s China joint ventures. GAC Toyota is a separate joint venture. The denial should not be read as a blanket statement covering every Toyota-related company, model, or dealer in China.

FAW Toyota’s statement, as reproduced by ITHome, described the joint venture as having operated in the domestic market for 23 years and claimed a user base of more than 10 million. Those are company-provided figures, not independently audited findings in the cited reports.

For context, Electrek reported that Toyota’s China sales fell 22.8% year over year in August, citing Toyota sales data. That is a separately attributed sales figure; it does not prove the price-cut rumor was true or explain the terms available to an individual buyer.
