Nissan Expands VC-Turbo Engine Recall; Campaign Counts Aren’t a Unique-Vehicle Total

Nissan’s 2026 VC-Turbo engine recall expands an earlier bearing campaign, but campaign counts cannot be added as a verified total of unique vehicles. Here’s what the notices say and how to check a VIN.

Nissan’s VC-Turbo engine recall story has grown, but the official campaign notices do not establish that more than 600,000 distinct vehicles are affected. The 2025 bearing-related campaign, 25V437, listed 443,899 potentially affected vehicles; its 2026 expansion, 26V080, lists 323,917 potential units. Because the later campaign expressly expands the earlier one, those figures should not be added as separate vehicle populations. A third recall, 26V081, covers a different defect and also involves Rogues.

What the three recall campaigns cover

The campaign numbers distinguish two engine-related filings from a separate throttle-body recall. Their listed counts describe potential campaign populations, not a verified count of unique vehicles.

Campaign and notice date Defect and vehicles Potential units listed Remedy described
25V437
July 1, 2025
Potential bearing or supporting-component manufacturing defects in certain 2021–2024 Nissan Rogues, 2019–2020 Nissan Altimas, 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50s, and 2022 Infiniti QX55s fitted with designated 1.5L three-cylinder or 2.0L four-cylinder VC-Turbo engines. 443,899, according to NHTSA’s 2025 notice. Free oil-pan inspection for metal debris; the follow-up work depends on engine type and inspection findings.
26V080
February 18, 2026 NHTSA notice
Engine-oil breakdown and bearing damage risk in certain 2023–2025 Nissan Rogues with the 1.5L three-cylinder VC-Turbo engine. NHTSA says this campaign expands 25V437. 323,917, according to NHTSA’s 2026 notice. Free ECM reprogramming, diagnostic-code inspection and test drive; oil-pan inspection and engine replacement if necessary.
26V081
February 18, 2026 NHTSA notice
A separate electronic throttle-body gear defect in certain 2024–2025 Nissan Rogues; broken gears may cause loss of drive power. 318,781, according to NHTSA’s 2026 notice. Not stated in the cited notice details summarized here; check the campaign record or a Nissan dealer for the remedy for a specific VIN.

Why “over 600,000” needs qualification

The 2026 engine campaign is explicitly an expansion of 25V437, so adding its 323,917 potential units to the earlier campaign’s 443,899 does not produce a defensible number of distinct vehicles. The notices do not provide a deduplicated total after the expansion. The 318,781 units in 26V081 should not be added either: that campaign concerns a different defect, and its Rogue model years overlap with those in the engine campaigns.

In other words, the official records support saying the recall coverage expanded; they do not establish how many unique vehicles across all these notices are affected.

What the VC-Turbo engine recalls say can go wrong

2025 campaign 25V437: bearing damage may progress

Nissan reported potential defects in specified engine bearings or supporting components that could damage the engine and lead to engine failure. The company’s June 26, 2025 report to NHTSA says bearing failures tend to progress rather than happen instantaneously. Possible signs include abnormal engine-compartment noise, rough running, a malfunction indicator light, or a warning message in the instrument cluster. If the engine fails while driving, loss of motive power can increase crash risk.

2026 campaign 26V080: oil breakdown and bearing seizure

NHTSA says increased temperatures can break down engine oil, which may cause engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure. A failure could cause loss of drive power and increase crash risk. The notice also warns that a bearing failure may breach the engine block, releasing hot oil and creating a fire risk. This is the mechanism stated for 26V080; it should not be treated as a replacement for the broader manufacturing-defect description in the earlier filing.

What Nissan dealers do under the engine campaigns

For 25V437

Dealers inspect the oil pan for specified metal debris at no charge. If no debris is found, the next work depends on the engine:

  • 1.5L engine: Replace the oil-pan gasket and engine oil, and reprogram the engine control module (ECM).
  • 2.0L engine: Replace the engine oil.
  • Specified debris confirmed: The detailed report instructs dealers to replace the engine.

For 26V080

Dealers reprogram the ECM, check for diagnostic trouble codes, and test-drive the vehicle. They may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris and replace the engine if necessary. The notice says the recall repair is free.

Nissan’s 2025 filing estimates the oil-pan inspection will take less than an hour, the no-debris service steps under half an hour, and engine replacement up to 15 hours. Those are the manufacturer’s estimated service times in its filing, not measured completion times for an individual repair.

How to check whether your Nissan or Infiniti is included

  1. Find your vehicle identification number (VIN), usually visible through the windshield or on vehicle paperwork.
  2. Enter it in the Nissan recall lookup or the NHTSA recall lookup. Infiniti owners should use the appropriate Infiniti lookup or contact an Infiniti dealer.
  3. Contact a dealer to confirm which campaign applies, whether its remedy is outstanding, and what work is required. A model-year match alone does not establish that a particular vehicle is included or still needs repair.

NHTSA’s 26V080 notice listed February 27, 2026 as the planned date for VINs to become searchable and March 27, 2026 as the expected owner-letter date. Those scheduled dates do not confirm the present status of any individual vehicle; use the VIN lookup and dealer confirmation.

Canadian owners should use Canadian recall information

Transport Canada’s Recall 2026055, last updated February 20, 2026, describes a related recall involving certain vehicles with 1.5L variable-compression engines. It identifies abnormal noise and warning lights as possible signs and describes an ECM update, inspection, and engine replacement if necessary. Canadian owners should consult the Transport Canada notice and Nissan Canada’s VIN lookup rather than applying U.S. campaign totals to their vehicle.
