Nissan unveiled the AURA NISMO RS Concept at Tokyo Auto Salon on January 9, 2026. It pairs an AURA NISMO-based body with the power unit from the X-TRAIL NISMO, but it is a technical validation concept—not a production-car announcement. Nissan says it may consider racing applications and future commercialization; the event listing says the concept is not for public-road use and is not for sale.
What is the Nissan AURA NISMO RS Concept?
Nissan and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing (NMC) describe the RS as a technical validation project intended to explore how mass-production technology and motorsports development can improve acceleration, cornering and braking. Its basic combination is an AURA NISMO body and the X-TRAIL NISMO power unit. Nissan’s stated interest in racing applications and possible commercialization remains conditional, rather than a confirmed race entry or launch plan. Nissan’s January 9, 2026 announcement and NMC’s project description set out that distinction.
The concept was shown as part of Nissan’s lineup at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, held January 9–11 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. The event’s official site identifies the RS as a concept car, not for public-road use and not for sale. Nissan’s interest in future commercialization should therefore not be read as an orderable production model. The event vehicle listing provides the status and equipment record.
How the concept differs from the AURA NISMO
Nissan’s published comparison shows a larger, wider, lower and heavier concept than the AURA NISMO, while retaining the same wheelbase. The dimensions and weight below are Nissan’s stated figures; changes are relative to the AURA NISMO. Nissan’s specification release is the source for the comparison.

The width increase is reflected in the widened fenders and track, while the lower roofline accompanies a ride height about 20 mm lower, according to NMC. The extra mass is part of the published specification, not evidence of a measured performance outcome.
Powertrain and chassis specifications
The official figures identify the ratings of the individual powertrain components. Nissan does not provide a combined system-output figure in the cited specification, so the motor ratings should not be added together and presented as an official total. These are listed component specifications, not independent test results. Nissan Global Newsroom’s release supplies the motor and engine ratings.

Nissan highlights NISMO-tuned e-4ORCE all-wheel control, a widened track and larger opposed-piston brakes: four-piston calipers at the front and two-piston units at the rear. The event vehicle record lists NISMO LM GT4 wheels measuring 18×9.0J and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in 245/45R18. Tokyo Auto Salon’s vehicle record independently lists those wheels and tires.
The cited releases provide no acceleration time, lap time or independently measured handling result. They also do not state a price or production quantity. Nissan’s stated goals for acceleration, cornering and braking describe the project’s purpose, not verified performance figures.

Bodywork and aerodynamic intent
NMC presents the design as an extension of the AURA NISMO’s “Agile Electric City Racer” concept. The visual changes include fenders widened by 145 mm overall, a lower ride height of about 20 mm, a red-accented front spoiler, side skirts, a rear diffuser, front-fender air-extracting shapes, side air splitters and a dedicated rear spoiler. The paint is called “Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray.” NMC’s description details the styling and design intent.
Nissan says the aero package is intended to increase downforce while reducing drag. That is the manufacturer’s stated design aim; the cited material does not give aerodynamic measurements or independent validation.

Will the AURA NISMO RS Concept go on sale?
There is no confirmed production launch. Nissan says it may consider commercialization, while Tokyo Auto Salon classifies the displayed car as a concept that is not for public-road use and not for sale. The official material also does not confirm that it will enter a race. Treat both racing and commercialization as possibilities under consideration, not announced outcomes. The event listing states its concept status; Nissan’s announcement describes the possible future directions.

The published details establish the concept’s component ratings, dimensions, mass, wheel and tire setup, and selected chassis hardware. They do not establish real-world speed, lap performance, a combined power figure, road legality or production-car availability. Those distinctions matter because the RS is presented as a development project, not as a finished retail vehicle.
