The Nike Pegasus Plus 2 is the Pegasus family’s tempo-oriented daily trainer: it pairs full-length ZoomX foam with an exposed forefoot Air Zoom unit, and Nike says its revised last allows more room at the forefoot and toe box. It is aimed at tempo runs, intervals and faster everyday miles. Nike positions the Pegasus 42—not the Plus 2—as the all-around workhorse for general training and easy miles.
What’s new on the Nike Pegasus Plus 2?
Nike’s Plus 2 update centers on three changes: full-length ZoomX foam, an exposed and curved Air Zoom unit at the forefoot, and an updated MR-10 2.0 last intended to create more space around the forefoot and toes. The Air unit is positioned to receive more load through its geometry, according to Nike. The shoe also adds a midfoot band, as reported by Gear Patrol.
Nike’s product page compares energy return with the original Pegasus Plus, listing a change from 7.0 joules to 9.1 joules. That is a manufacturer-published figure, not an independent lab result. Gear Patrol reports Nike’s separate claim that the Air Zoom addition increases energy return by up to 18 percent, and that the Plus 2 is 10 percent lighter than the original Pegasus Plus. These are Nike claims, not independently verified performance findings.
Nike product manager Tomokazu Yuasa describes the combination as giving runners “a propulsive feeling from the forefoot.” That is the design intent; it should not be mistaken for a hands-on ride assessment.

How it fits in Nike’s Pegasus lineup
Nike’s product comparison puts the Plus 2 between the general-purpose Pegasus 42 and the Pegasus Premium, which Nike presents as the family’s maximum-energy-return option. The foam and Air Zoom layouts reflect those different roles.
| Model | Intended use, per Nike | Midsole and Air Zoom setup | Belgium listed price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pegasus 42 | Everyday training and easy miles | ReactX foam with full-length Air Zoom | €139.99 |
| Pegasus Plus 2 | Tempo runs, intervals and fast daily miles | Full-length ZoomX foam with exposed forefoot Air Zoom | €169.99 |
| Pegasus Premium | Everyday training with maximum energy return | ZoomX and ReactX foam with a sculpted full-length Air Zoom unit | Not stated on the cited Nike page |
The listed prices are from Nike Belgium’s product page as accessed October 3, 2026; prices and availability vary by market and can change. Nike says Pegasus 42 offers 15 percent greater energy return than Pegasus 41. That figure applies to the 42’s comparison with its predecessor, not to the Plus 2.

Plus 2 or Pegasus 42: which one makes more sense?
Choose the Plus 2 for faster sessions
If your regular week includes tempo efforts, intervals or quicker daily runs, Nike positions the Plus 2 for those paces. Its ZoomX-and-forefoot-Air-Zoom configuration is distinct from the standard Pegasus 42. The Plus 2’s €169.99 price on Nike Belgium’s page is €30 more than the 42’s listed €139.99 price there; local prices may differ.
Choose the Pegasus 42 for a more general daily shoe
Nike describes the Pegasus 42 as an all-around trainer for everyday running and easy miles. Tom’s Guide reports running 35 miles in the Pegasus 42 and describes a familiar ride that felt smoother and livelier at faster paces than the Pegasus 41. The reviewer praised outsole grip and expected durability, but found the forefoot less comfortable than more cushioned models. That independent review concerns only the Pegasus 42, so it cannot establish how the Plus 2 feels or fits.

Fit, sizing and availability
Nike says the MR-10 2.0 last opens up the forefoot and toe box compared with the narrow-fit complaint associated with the original Plus. The Plus 2 is not offered in a wide width on the cited Nike page, so the revised shape does not amount to a dedicated wide option.
Nike Belgium lists men’s UK sizes 5–12 and women’s UK sizes 2.5–9.5. Those ranges, colourways, stock and price are market-specific snapshots rather than a promise of universal availability. Nike says the shoe is sold through Nike.com and select retailers. The model launched in late August 2026, with additional colourways appearing October 1, according to Nike and Gear Patrol.

Nike frames its road lineup around three different cushioning priorities: Pegasus for responsive cushioning, Vomero for maximum cushioning, and Structure for supportive cushioning and stability. Within that framework, the Plus 2 is a faster-training choice in the Pegasus family; it does not replace the broader roles Nike assigns to Vomero or Structure.

- Flyknit upper has perforations to help reduce the weight of the shoe and make it more breathable.
- ZoomX foam midsole offers springy cushioning.
- High-abrasion rubber on outsole provides traction.
- Midfoot band helps keep you contained.
The Pegasus franchise dates to 1982, according to Nike. The company has called the Pegasus 42 its “powerful workhorse”; describing the Plus 2 as the true workhorse is a characterization used by Gear Patrol, not Nike’s positioning for the whole lineup.
What’s known—and not established—about performance
The Plus 2’s design and intended workouts are documented in Nike’s product information, and Gear Patrol reports its US launch price and Nike’s weight and energy-return claims. The sources cited here do not establish an independent hands-on test of the Plus 2. There is therefore no basis here for a first-person ride verdict, a durability prediction, an injury-prevention claim or a universal recommendation for a particular runner.
Gear Patrol names the New Balance SuperComp Rebel and ASICS Megablast as alternatives in the broader “super trainer” conversation. That is an editorial comparison, not a like-for-like performance ranking: the cited reporting supplies no controlled test data comparing those models with the Plus 2.
