What counts as a “new SUV” for 2025?

Chevrolet said its next-generation 2025 Equinox would be available in 2024. Treat “new” as a specific claim about a model or generation, not as a synonym for “appears in a 2025 lineup.”
The official U.S. sources support a shortlist of candidates, but they do not verify the original nine-model lineup implied by the headline. They also do not provide a complete basis for comparing prices, performance, safety ratings, or current inventory.

Chevrolet Equinox: a next-generation compact SUV
Chevrolet described the 2025 Equinox as next-generation and identified LT, RS, and ACTIV trims. It said the ACTIV has an outdoor-inspired appearance and all-terrain tires; those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent findings about off-road capability. The release said the 2025 model would be available in 2024, so its calendar-year arrival precedes its model year. Chevrolet also reported more than 20 years of Equinox production and “3 million-plus units sold” as of its January 23, 2024 announcement; that cumulative figure is Chevrolet’s own, not an independently audited industry statistic. Hyundai three-row IONIQ electric SUV: an announced all-new model
Hyundai’s 2025 model-year guide described an all-new three-row IONIQ electric SUV and said its world premiere was planned for later in 2024. That release documents Hyundai’s plan at the time; it does not by itself establish subsequent launch timing, final specifications, price, or availability. Toyota 4Runner, Crown Signia, and Land Cruiser: listed in the 2025 lineup
Toyota’s U.S. 2025 lineup includes the 4Runner, Crown Signia, and Land Cruiser. This confirms their inclusion as 2025 model-year vehicles, but the lineup page alone does not mean each is an all-new 2025 launch. Lexus GX and TX: lineup entries, with electrified TX variants
Lexus lists the GX and TX in its 2025 SUV lineup and includes TX hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The listing establishes model-year presence, not that every model or powertrain is new for that year. How to narrow the shortlist to your needs
Start with the job the SUV must do, then compare vehicles within a similar size and use case. The candidates above span a three-row electric SUV announcement, SUVs with hybrid or plug-in hybrid variants, and a compact SUV with trim-specific equipment; they are not direct substitutes simply because they share a model year.
