How far can the new Hyundai NEXO travel on one fill?
Hyundai’s November 11, 2025 global announcement lists a projected 826 km WLTP range for the European NEXO with 18-inch wheels. That is about 513 miles by unit conversion. It is a projected manufacturer figure tied to the stated European specification and WLTP test context, not an EPA rating or a promise of real-world distance. Hyundai’s announcement does not substantiate the 435-mile figure in the original headline.
Hyundai’s earlier April 2025 introduction described a target of more than 700 km from a fill of about five minutes. The later announcement supplies the more specific projected 826 km WLTP figure. Hyundai also says the new NEXO has up to 6.69 kg of usable hydrogen capacity, increased from 6.33 kg in the previous generation, and that refueling takes approximately five minutes. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Hyundai’s November 2025 announcement and its April 2025 introduction provide the respective figures.
Range claims differ by market
Hyundai Mobility Japan announced sales of the Japan-market NEXO starting April 8, 2026, with a 1,014 km reference range after an approximately five-minute fill. The Japanese release does not establish that this figure uses the same test basis as the European WLTP projection, so the two should not be treated as directly comparable. The Japanese figure is a market-specific reference claim, not evidence that every NEXO has that range.

When comparing range figures, check the market, vehicle specification, wheel size where stated, and whether the number is projected, certified, or described as a reference range. The origin and measurement basis of the 435-mile figure are not established by the cited Hyundai announcements; it should not be labeled as an EPA rating or real-world result. Can the Hyundai NEXO tow a trailer?
Hyundai says European-specification NEXO models can tow up to 1,000 kg. The 2026 European owner’s manual makes the conditions more specific: its maximum braked trailer weight is 1,000 kg when the vehicle has the trailer package, while the maximum unbraked trailer weight is 750 kg. These are European-market limits; they should not be applied to other markets or configurations without checking the applicable vehicle documentation.

The manual also cautions that vehicle cargo and accessories reduce the applicable trailer and tongue-load limits. A trailer’s weight alone therefore does not establish that a particular loaded vehicle is within its limits. Check the vehicle’s own permitted loads and equipment before towing. Hyundai’s European owner’s manual lists the towing weights under “Reference weight and distance when towing a trailer.”

The NEXO uses hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity for an electric motor. Hyundai lists a 150 kW motor and total system output of 190 kW, alongside up to 6.69 kg of usable hydrogen. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s stated specifications; they are not independent performance or range test results.

Hydrogen refueling speed does not by itself establish how practical the vehicle will be for a particular driver. The cited announcements give a refueling time claim, but do not establish that hydrogen is conveniently available at every location.
