He later said Tesla fixed the issue, but no public source identifies the failed part, cause, repair, or warranty outcome. The account documents one incident—not a known Cybertruck-wide defect.
What the owner reported
On May 8, 2024, forum user CYBEAST, who identifies himself as Jason and lists Destin, Florida, as his location, wrote that he picked up his Cybertruck in Pensacola and drove roughly 35 miles to a Supercharger in Crestview. While charging, he said, “coolant started pouring out of the rear of the truck.” He also said he contacted Tesla service and that a tow truck would be sent. His forum thread is the original first-person account.
The thread is titled “35 miles until a problem- now resolved.” In a later post, its author said Tesla fixed the truck. The post does not provide a service record or explain what Tesla repaired. Futurism’s May 10, 2024 coverage repeats the owner’s account and reported outcome; it is secondary reporting based on the forum thread, not an independent technical diagnosis.
What is known—and what is not
- Reported by the owner: the Florida route, approximate 35-mile drive, coolant pouring from the rear during supercharging, and contact with Tesla service.
- Reported outcome: the owner later said Tesla fixed the truck. The available accounts do not name the failed component, physical cause, repair procedure, or final warranty decision.
- Not established: whether charging contributed to the leak, whether other Cybertrucks have the same problem, or how frequently this type of failure occurs. One account provides no fleet-wide prevalence or failure-rate evidence.
What Cybertruck owners should do if they see a leak
Tesla’s North America Cybertruck Owner’s Manual, checked against software version 2026.32, says: “Do not remove the coolant filler cap and do not add fluid.” If the touchscreen warns that fluid is low, the manual directs owners to use the Tesla mobile app to schedule a service appointment. A visible, substantial leak is not a reason to open the cooling system or attempt a top-up; contact Tesla service and follow its guidance. Tesla Cybertruck Owner’s Manual

- Compatibility & Function:Fitment: Specifically designed for 2012-2018 Tesla Model S with the Large Drive Unit (LDU), including RWD and P-Performance models. Please verify your drive unit type before purchase.
- Core Function: This mechanical upgrade part permanently resolves the OEM coolant leak failure by replacing the original component with a superior billet aluminum design, ensuring a permanent seal.
- Engineering & Solution: Precision Engineering: CNC-machined from a single block of 6061 billet aluminum, this metal replacement part provides maximum durability and solves the plastic OEM part's weakness.
- Leak Prevention: Addresses the root cause of LDU failure by eliminating the risk of coolant fluid leakage at the rotor inlet, protecting your drive unit from internal damage.
- Performance Benefit: Improved Thermal Management: By reducing flow restriction, this upgrade enhances the cooling efficiency of the LDU, leading to more consistent performance and longevity of critical components.
Tesla’s maintenance guidance recommends checking for abnormal fluid deposits beneath the vehicle. It also notes that a small pool of water from air-conditioning dehumidification can be normal. That distinction applies to a small amount of water; it does not explain or diagnose the owner’s reported coolant leak. Tesla maintenance guidance

Tesla’s Cybertruck Service Manual lists orange HTF-LS coolant for the cooling system and notes that early-production Cybertrucks used blue G-48. It warns not to mix the two and says use of unapproved alternative fluids is at the repairer’s risk, with resulting damage not covered under the limited warranties cited there. Because the particular truck’s build and system condition are unknown, the reported incident does not support recommending a generic coolant or a do-it-yourself refill.
