The strongest documented choices span Ducati muscle cruisers, Triumph’s muscle roadster, and Indian’s touring bagger—and they do not all fit a narrow definition of “cruiser.” Here are the models with published figures, the category caveats, and why a familiar Harley-Davidson cruiser misses the cutoff.
Why this isn’t a verified list of eight
The available manufacturer specifications support several high-powered cruiser-adjacent motorcycles, but not eight distinct models under one consistent definition. Counting a performance derivative or a trim as a separate model would make the list look more complete than the evidence allows. This article uses “cruiser” broadly enough to include muscle cruisers, muscle roadsters, and a touring bagger, and identifies each category rather than treating them as interchangeable.
The figures below are manufacturer-published ratings, not independent dynamometer results. Horsepower, brake horsepower (bhp), and metric horsepower (PS) are not identical units, so the ratings retain the units used by the cited market pages.
Verified motorcycles rated above 120 hp
| Motorcycle | Published power | Published torque | Engine and category | Model-year context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ducati Diavel V4 | 168 hp (124 kW) at 10,750 rpm | 93 lb-ft at 7,500 rpm | 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo; Ducati calls it a muscle cruiser. | Ducati’s 2022 unveiling for model year 2023; current availability may differ. Ducati model page |

| Ducati Diavel V4 RS | 182 hp (133.8 kW) at 11,750 rpm | 89 lb-ft at 9,500 rpm | High-performance Diavel derivative; it is not a separate broad model family. | Current US specification; publication year not stated. Ducati model page |
| Triumph Rocket 3 Storm R | 180 bhp (134 kW) at 7,000 rpm | 166 lb-ft (225 Nm) at 4,000 rpm | Triumph describes the Rocket 3 range as a muscle roadster, not a conventional cruiser. | Current Triumph Motorcycles America specification; publication year not stated. Triumph US model page |
| Indian Challenger Dark Horse | 122 hp displayed for the Dark Horse trim; Indian also says the PowerPlus 112 makes 126 hp straight from the factory. | 133 lb-ft for the PowerPlus 112; rpm not stated. | American V-twin touring bagger. It qualifies only if the roundup’s broad definition includes baggers. | Indian’s current 2026 US product page; publication year not stated. Indian Challenger page |
What the figures mean for a buyer
Power is only one part of the comparison
The peak horsepower number does not tell you where the engine makes its torque, how the bike delivers power, or whether its riding position suits your use. The published torque figures illustrate the difference: Triumph lists 166 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm, while the Diavel V4 is listed at 93 lb-ft at 7,500 rpm. Those numbers are manufacturer ratings for different engines and models, not a controlled head-to-head test.

Compare like with like
Before choosing between these bikes, compare specifications for the same market and model year. Check engine layout and capacity, the manufacturer’s category and riding position, touring equipment, rider aids, and price alongside power and torque. The cited pages do not provide a complete same-year, same-market set of prices and equipment, so a price or feature ranking cannot be established from them. Indian notes that its US MSRP excludes destination and handling, tax, title, licensing, and registration, and that prices vary by dealer.
Why a popular cruiser can miss the cutoff
Displacement and torque do not guarantee more than 120 horsepower. Harley-Davidson rates its 2026 Low Rider ST at 114 hp, below the threshold, despite its Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine and cruiser positioning. That makes the cutoff a matter of published engine output, not a shorthand for engine size or the bike’s style. Harley-Davidson 2026 Low Rider ST specifications

Check the exact model year and market
Manufacturer pages can cover different years and regions, and older launch information may remain available alongside current product listings. The Diavel V4’s cited 168 hp figure comes from Ducati’s 2022 announcement for model year 2023, while other Ducati figures come from current US pages. Indian’s Challenger listing is for its 2026 US range. Confirm the local model year, trim, and specifications before treating any figure as current for your market.
