Which Skoda is the “40 km/l” car?
It is the all-new Škoda Superb TDI. Škoda Auto India announced its return on 18 August 2026 and invited customers to express interest. The company calls it the brand’s flagship luxury sedan. Its announcement highlights LED Matrix headlamps, Cognac leather, heated, ventilated and massage front seats, a Rear Sleep Package, Dynamic Chassis Control and ADAS; the final variant-wise feature list has not been published in the material reviewed, so these highlights should not be taken to mean every feature will be standard on every version. Škoda Auto India’s announcement also quotes Škoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer: “India remains one of our most important global growth markets and a great example of what Škoda Auto can achieve when we listen closely to our customers.”

Does the new Superb really deliver 40 km/l?
Not as an established India mileage figure. MotorOctane reported that a Superb diesel covered about 2,800 km in a controlled European run and was associated with a 40 km/l result; NDTV India repeated that context. The reports reviewed do not identify the original test record or provide enough information about the route, conditions, vehicle configuration or measurement to independently assess the result. MotorOctane cautions that everyday mileage would be lower. Treat 40 km/l as a secondary-reported test claim, not a certified rating, guarantee or expectation for Indian owners. When will the Superb return to India?
Škoda Auto India says deliveries are expected to commence at the end of Q2 2027. That is the manufacturer’s delivery timeline, not a precise launch-day date. The company has opened an expression-of-interest route, but an expression of interest is not a confirmed order or a delivery commitment.
What engine and specifications are confirmed?
The current India product page lists the L&K with a 2.0 TDI diesel engine producing 110 kW, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic and front-wheel drive. Maximum torque is listed as 360 Nm.
