The case later moved beyond the initial allegations: the U.S. Department of Justice said Kim pleaded guilty in February 2026 to four federal counts. The latest located DOJ release scheduled sentencing for May 27, 2026, but the outcome of that hearing is not established here.
What happened in the Las Vegas Tesla arson case?
The incident occurred on March 18, 2025, at a Tesla collision business at 6260 West Badura Avenue in Las Vegas. On March 27, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers had arrested Kim the previous day. The arrest announcement said investigators alleged that five Tesla vehicles were damaged or destroyed using Molotov cocktails and a .30-caliber AR-style firearm, and that “Resist” was painted on the building. Those details described the allegations supporting the arrest, not findings of guilt at that stage.
The initial criminal complaint charged Kim with one count of arson and one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm. The complaint affidavit set out the probable-cause basis for those charges. An arrest and complaint are not a conviction; the DOJ’s announcement expressly noted the presumption of innocence.
How did the case change after the arrest?
On February 24, 2026, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada reported that Kim had pleaded guilty to four federal counts: two counts of arson of property used in interstate commerce, one count of attempted arson of property used in interstate commerce, and one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm, described in the release as a destructive device.

The plea release said three Molotov cocktails were thrown into three vehicles: two ignited and one did not detonate. It also said five Tesla vehicles were damaged. These are details reported in the later plea-stage account, distinct from the allegations announced at the time of arrest.

The DOJ’s February 2026 plea announcement said the counts carried a five-year mandatory minimum and a total statutory maximum of 70 years, and scheduled sentencing for May 27, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey. These figures describe statutory exposure, not the sentence imposed. The latest located official update does not establish whether the hearing occurred or what sentence, if any, was imposed.
