The “begins production” milestone refers to the Neander Dtorque 111’s launch period, not a new production start today. Developed by Germany’s Neander with Yanmar as its original distribution partner, the 50-hp turbo-diesel outboard entered series production in 2017; a later account dates serial production to 2018. Yanmar transferred direct sales rights to Neander in 2021, and Neander now describes the engine as available to buy directly or through authorized dealers.
What the Dtorque 111 is
The Dtorque 111 is a turbocharged, twin-cylinder diesel outboard developed by Neander. Yanmar’s 2015 announcement described an approximately 800 cc aluminum engine with common-rail injection and a dual counter-rotating crankshaft concept. Neander’s current specification page lists the following figures:

These are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent comparative test. Yanmar’s earlier announcement describes the engine’s design and launch-era distribution arrangement; Neander’s current Dtorque specifications provide the present product figures.
What “begins production” means
Yanmar announced a distribution agreement with Neander in September 2015. Neander announced in 2017 that the Dtorque 111 had entered series production. A 2021 report on the companies’ relationship says serial production had begun in 2018. The references distinguish the 2017 production-phase announcement from the later description of serial production; neither describes a current launch.

Yanmar was the global distribution partner at launch. In 2021 it transferred direct sales rights to Neander. Neander now presents the Dtorque 50 as a product available through direct purchase and authorized partners or dealers. Availability, installation support, service coverage, warranty terms, and stock depend on the buyer’s location, so confirm them with Neander or a local dealer. Neander reports that its authorized network serves 86 countries across five continents; that is a company-reported figure, not a guarantee of local coverage.
What buyers should weigh
Diesel fuel and a 50-hp rating alone are not enough to determine whether this engine suits a boat. Compare the installation and ownership factors that affect the whole setup:

- Power and operating range: The listed 50 hp is rated at 3,500–4,000 rpm, while the listed torque range is 111 Nm at 2,250–3,000 rpm. Match the engine to the boat and intended load with qualified installation advice.
- Weight and fit: Neander lists 185 kg dry weight and 20-inch or 25-inch shaft versions. Check transom capacity, shaft length, clearance, and the complete installed weight.
- Fuel and installation requirements: Confirm fuel-system compatibility, controls, electrical requirements, and installation details for the specific boat. The owner’s manual specifies a minimum 75 Ah, 12 V starter battery; verify all requirements against the manual that applies to the engine.
- Service and parts access: Ask who can perform scheduled maintenance locally and whether compatible service kits, filters, lubricants, and replacement parts are available.
- Total ownership cost: Include purchase, installation, scheduled service, parts, and access to warranty support rather than comparing engine prices alone.
Neander makes claims about fuel efficiency, emissions, service intervals, and torque relative to alternatives. Those are manufacturer claims; the available sources do not establish a neutral, directly comparable test across engines. Neander’s homepage reported aggregate savings of 8 million litres of gasoline and 19,000 tons of CO2 emissions prevented, updated October 1, 2026; those figures are also manufacturer-reported, not independently verified measurements.
Service intervals and owner documentation
Neander’s FAQ describes scheduled services at 50 hours, then at 250-hour and 1,000-hour intervals. The applicable owner’s manual and warranty documents cover tasks including oil, fuel-filter, and transmission-oil service. Follow the documentation for the engine’s serial number and current manufacturer guidance rather than assuming one oil grade or procedure applies to every unit.

Before buying, ask the seller or service provider which service kit and specified lubricants apply to the engine, and confirm the intervals in its manual. Neander’s FAQ, owner’s manual, and limited warranty manual provide the manufacturer’s maintenance and warranty information.

Neander says buyers can purchase the Dtorque directly or through authorized partners and dealers. Ask about current local stock, installation, service support, warranty coverage, and the correct parts and consumables for the engine’s serial number. No current price or location-specific stock level is established here. Yanmar’s 2015 announcement documents its original distribution role; it is not the current purchase route described by Neander.
