Elon Musk hinted at a flying-car connection while discussing Tesla’s Roadster on The Joe Rogan Experience, but he did not show a flying car or explain how one would work. The October 31, 2025 interview is a teaser about a planned prototype demonstration—not evidence that a flying Roadster has flown, been certified, entered production or gone on sale.
What Musk said about the Roadster
In Tesla’s SEC-filed materials, the company identifies October 31, 2025 as the date Musk appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience and includes the interview transcript. Rogan asked whether Tesla was still making the Roadster. Musk answered, “Eventually,” then said, “We’re getting close to demonstrating the prototype.” He described the planned product demonstration as “unforgettable.”
When Rogan asked if he meant a flying car, Musk invoked Peter Thiel’s observation that the future was supposed to have flying cars, then said, “I think if Peter wants a flying car, we should be able to buy one.” Asked about a wing or other design details, Musk replied, “I can’t do the unveil before the unveil.” He hoped the demonstration would happen before the end of 2025; that was a forecast in the interview, not confirmation that the event took place.
Did Musk say the Tesla Roadster can fly?
No flight capability was demonstrated or explained in the transcript. Musk teased a possible flying-car idea but did not describe its mechanism, give engineering specifications or say the vehicle was for sale. The distinction matters: a promised prototype demonstration is not proof of flight, aircraft certification, production or consumer availability.

Tesla’s public Roadster page describes an all-electric sports car and does not document a flying vehicle. The interview and that product description do not establish that a Roadster can take off or fly.
How the flying-car talk relates to Musk’s 2018 comments
In a 2018 Joe Rogan interview, Musk discussed an optional Roadster performance package using cold-gas thrusters and compressed air, with a high-pressure tank and electric pump. He also talked about noise and airflow as practical problems for flying cars, including the remark: “Your neighbors are not going to be happy if you land a flying car in your backyard.”

That has not been established. Axios framed Musk’s remarks as a possible flying-car tease and used electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOLs, as the closest existing market category to what many people mean by flying cars. That is context from Axios’s November 5, 2025 report, not confirmation from Musk that the Roadster is an eVTOL.
