Neither figure is a mandatory price: an authorised test centre can charge less. The widely reported £95 figure is an Independent Garage Association (IGA) request for a higher general MOT maximum—not an approved change or a confirmed motorcycle-specific fee.
How much is a motorcycle MOT?
GOV.UK lists these maximum fees for motorcycle MOTs:
| Test category | Maximum fee |
|---|---|
| Standard motorcycle | £29.65 |
| Motorcycle with a sidecar | £37.80 |
The fee is not subject to VAT. These are the official maximum charges, not guaranteed prices at every garage. GOV.UK’s MOT cost guidance lists the categories and fees.
Is the motorcycle MOT going up to £95?
No £95 motorcycle MOT fee has been approved. A report published by The Throttle Hand on 17 August 2026, attributing its account to Visordown, says the IGA called for the general maximum MOT fee to rise to at least £95. The same report says the IGA had not confirmed what that request would mean specifically for motorcycle MOTs. It is therefore not evidence that a motorcycle test will cost £95, or that the Government has agreed to raise the cap. Read the report on the IGA request.

The official fee information retrieved for 7 October 2026 still gives the motorcycle maxima as £29.65 and £37.80. The DVSA’s May 2026 fee poster lists those amounts and says the schedule applies from 6 April 2010. DVSA’s 2026 special notice required affected centres in England, Scotland and Wales to display the updated poster by 12 June 2026.

The statutory fee is a ceiling. DVSA’s MOT testing guide says, “The fees are the maximum that may be charged,” and permits authorised examiners to charge less for a test, retest or duplicate certificate. The guide also says extra charges must not take the test fee above the applicable maximum. Read the DVSA guidance on accounts and fees.
