White, black, gray, silver, and blue are among the most common car colors in current global and U.S. market data. White, gray, and black lead Axalta’s latest global summary, while Edmunds lists the same five colors among the leaders in U.S. data collected during 2025. These figures describe vehicle production or market mix—not a poll of what individual buyers say they prefer.
What is the most popular car color?
There is no single exact ranking that applies everywhere: the available reports cover different geographies and measure different things. Axalta’s 2025 Global Automotive Color Popularity Report says white, gray, and black again dominated worldwide. Its published summary gives specific shares for gray, silver, blue, and red, but not a complete percentage breakdown for all five leading colors.
Axalta Coating Systems explains that its report draws on production data: “Each year, Axalta analyzes automotive build data from leading vehicle production regions and major markets around the world to deliver global color popularity rankings, regional trends, and an indicator of current market preferences.” That makes the report useful for understanding the colors represented in vehicle builds, but it should not be described as a direct survey of buyer preferences. The five most common car colors
White
White is one of the colors named among the leaders in both Axalta’s global summary and Edmunds’ U.S. data. Axalta’s summary does not provide a white percentage, so a precise global share cannot be established from that release.

Is green becoming a popular car color?
Green is a growing chromatic trend, but the available evidence does not show that it has displaced the leading neutral colors. BASF’s account of the 2025 color landscape describes green as the strongest-growing chromatic signal worldwide and notes that white declined slightly. Growth does not necessarily mean a color has the largest overall share; the report summary does not establish green as a global top-five color.

- Geography: A global production report and U.S. sales data describe different markets.
- What is measured: Axalta analyzes automotive build data; Edmunds presents U.S. top-selling color data.
- Share versus growth: A color can be growing quickly without having a larger overall share than established neutrals.
- Available detail: The published summaries do not provide a complete, comparable percentage table for every color and region.
For the question “What car color sells the most?”, use a sales dataset for the market you mean. For the question “What colors are most common in production?”, Axalta’s global build-data report is the more directly relevant measure.
