Mitsubishi Motors North America sold 94,754 vehicles in the United States in calendar 2025, down 13.7% from 109,843 in 2024—not a company-wide sales spike. The model picture was mixed: Outlander remained the volume leader, Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport grew, and Outlander Plug-in Hybrid and Mirage sales fell.
Which Mitsubishi models sold best in the U.S. in 2025?
These are Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) reported U.S. sales for January through December 2025, with 2024 comparisons. “Best” depends on whether you mean units sold or year-over-year growth.
| Model | 2025 U.S. sales | 2024 U.S. sales | Year-over-year result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outlander | 35,895 | 45,253 | Down about 20.7%; the brand’s volume leader |
| Outlander Sport | 20,480 | 15,125 | Up 35.4%; best full year since 2021, according to MMNA |
| Eclipse Cross | 17,508 | 12,724 | Up nearly 38%; second-best-ever full year, according to MMNA |
| Mirage | 14,577 | 29,766 | Down about 51.0% |
| Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) | 6,294 | 6,975 | Down about 9.8%; third-best-ever full year since its 2017 launch, according to MMNA |
| Total | 94,754 | 109,843 | Down about 13.7% |
The figures and model descriptions come from MMNA’s January 5, 2026 sales release. Outlander Sport is a separate nameplate; its 20,480 sales should not be added to Outlander’s 35,895 when describing Outlander sales.
Where Mitsubishi gained—and where it lost ground
Outlander led in units, but sales declined
Outlander’s 35,895 U.S. sales made it Mitsubishi’s top seller by volume in 2025, and MMNA said it accounted for more than one-third of the brand’s total. Its sales nevertheless fell from 45,253 in 2024.

Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport posted the clearest growth
Eclipse Cross increased to 17,508, up nearly 38% year over year. Its 5,166 fourth-quarter sales were 103% higher than in the fourth quarter of 2024. Outlander Sport rose 35.4% to 20,480, its best full year since 2021 according to MMNA. These gains describe growth rates, not the highest sales volumes.
Outlander PHEV had a strong historical year, but not year-over-year growth
U.S. Outlander PHEV sales were 6,294, down from 6,975 in 2024. MMNA characterized 2025 as its third-best-ever full year since the model’s 2017 launch. That historical ranking does not mean sales increased from the prior year.

Mirage sales fell as the nameplate ended
Mirage sales dropped to 14,577 from 29,766. The fourth-quarter comparison was 1,094 in 2025 versus 9,742 in the fourth quarter of 2024. MMNA attributed the brand’s year-over-year drop in part to discontinuing the Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan in a shrinking segment; it did not quantify how much of the decline came from discontinuation.
Why the “sales spike” framing is misleading
Two growing models do not add up to growth for the brand: Mitsubishi’s U.S. total fell by about 13.7% in 2025, and the fourth-quarter total also declined, to 21,354 from 27,125 in the same quarter of 2024. The accurate summary is a split result, with notable gains for Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport offset by declines elsewhere, especially Mirage and Outlander.

MMNA’s release also reports shopper-conversion figures attributed to Ipsos NVCS: 96% for compact CUV owners who shopped for an Outlander, 94% for subcompact CUV owners who shopped for an Eclipse Cross, and 92% for plug-in hybrid owners who shopped for an Outlander PHEV. MMNA does not specify the study year or methodology, so these figures should not be treated as independently verified or current market-wide purchase rates.
U.S. and Canadian results tell different stories
Canada reported a different mix, so its results should not be combined with MMNA’s U.S. total. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada reported 37,335 Canadian sales in 2025, down 4.1% from 38,921. Outlander rose 40.9% to 12,688, and Eclipse Cross rose 12.1% to 5,930. Canadian Outlander PHEV sales fell 37.7% to 8,899 from 14,290, although the company said it remained Canada’s best-selling plug-in hybrid for a third consecutive year. Mirage sold 1,776 as it reached the end of its lifecycle in Canada. See the company’s January 8, 2026 Canadian sales release for that market’s figures.

What the sales figures can—and cannot—show
These releases establish reported sales by model and year; they do not provide comparable transaction prices, revenue, profit, incentives, inventory, or a market-share methodology for the nameplates. The Canadian “best-selling plug-in hybrid” description is Mitsubishi Canada’s claim about Canada, not a U.S. ranking or a statement about every type of vehicle.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation separately reported 121,528 North America exports in 2025, up 11.4%. That is an export figure from the global corporation, not MMNA’s U.S. retail sales. Its January 29, 2026 production, sales and export release covers global production, Japan domestic sales and exports.
