The Microlino Spider is a roofless, open-sided electric-vehicle concept Micro pitched for short trips in US neighborhoods and leisure destinations. A January 2025 report described its design and possible US positioning, but did not confirm production, US certification, road legality, or a sales launch. It is not the same vehicle as the European Microlino or its production Spiaggina edition.
What is the Microlino Spider?
The Spider reworks the Microlino’s front-loading design: its front door is sealed, while the roof and sides are open. Micro described an optional canvas shade for overhead cover. New Atlas also reported concept details including wood accents on the steering wheel and sill guards, blue-and-white trim, and paint intended to shift between blue, green, and purple in different light. These are descriptions of the concept, not confirmation that the vehicle or accessories are on sale.

Micro framed the vehicle for local driving, including neighborhood trips and use at places such as hotels and golf clubs. Company chair Wim Ouboter described it as an “antithesis to massive electric pickup trucks,” aimed at trips where a driver is alone rather than hauling a load. That is the company’s positioning, not independent evidence about how often people drive alone or what vehicle is safer or more practical.
Is the Spider coming to the US?
The available reporting does not establish a production date, US launch, price, or active dealer program. New Atlas reported that Micro was looking for US dealer groups, leasing companies, and entrepreneurs; that is a prospective search, not proof that a partner or customer program is in place.

Microlino’s published FAQ says its existing Microlino is currently available only in Europe and would need adjustments to meet US registration requirements. That statement concerns the regular Microlino, not a confirmed Spider launch, and the FAQ is not newly dated. Microlino FAQ
Could you drive a Microlino Spider on US roads?
US road access is unconfirmed. New Atlas reported that the Spider could likely be configured as a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) or low-speed vehicle (LSV), with use associated with roads whose speed limits are 35 mph or lower. The report does not document Spider certification, registration, or approval in any state. A vehicle’s class and permitted roads depend on applicable vehicle and local rules; the concept’s reported possibility is not a nationwide authorization.
What is known about its specifications?
New Atlas reported that Micro withheld most Spider specifications and said they would be similar to the regular Microlino, adapted for US rules. The available sources do not establish the Spider’s motor, range, top speed, charging time, price, payload, or US vehicle class.
European Microlino figures can offer family context only. The manufacturer’s configurator lists three battery capacities and WMTC range figures for European Microlino configurations; these are not Spider specifications or US EPA estimates. Microlino cautions that actual range can vary with driving style, load, topography, and season. Microlino configurator
| European Microlino configuration | Manufacturer-stated battery | Manufacturer-stated WMTC range |
|---|---|---|
| Configuration 1 | 5.5 kWh | 93 km |
| Configuration 2 | 10.5 kWh | 177 km |
| Configuration 3 | 15 kWh | 228 km |
Microlino’s Spiaggina is a separate European convertible edition, with a detachable canvas roof and roll bars. Its official page lists up to 177 km of range and a maximum speed of 90 km/h; neither figure is a Spider specification. Microlino Spiaggina
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does it compare with a golf cart or pickup?
The Spider’s open body and local-trip pitch may bring golf carts or small neighborhood vehicles to mind, while Micro’s executive positioned it against large electric pickups. But the available information is not enough to rank the Spider against either category. Key comparison points—including confirmed sales, legal road access, maximum speed, passenger protection, weather protection, range, charging, payload, and cost—are not established for the Spider.
Its roofless, open-sided concept suggests less weather protection than a conventional enclosed car, while the proposed canvas shade would provide overhead cover rather than enclosing the sides. The sources do not provide safety-test results or a comparative assessment of passenger protection, so claims that it is safer, more capable, or a direct replacement for a golf cart, car, or pickup would go beyond the evidence.
How is it different from the production Microlino Spiaggina?
The Spider is the concept described in the US-focused report. The Spiaggina is a separate convertible edition in Microlino’s European range, with a detachable canvas roof and roll bars. The fact that the Microlino family includes an open-top production model does not show that the Spider has entered production or will be sold in the United States.
