A 2026-dated Independent page about Jean Todt’s remarks is not a new 2026 health update: the report says it was originally published on October 2, 2024. Todt’s more recent comments, reported in February 2025, confirm that he sees Michael Schumacher and his family regularly, but he has not disclosed medical details. Schumacher’s current condition has not been independently confirmed in the reporting reviewed.
What did Jean Todt say about Schumacher?
In remarks originally published in 2024, Todt said: “His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That’s all there is to say.” The Independent report carrying those remarks has a 2026 date, but identifies October 2, 2024 as its original publication date. Its page date should not be mistaken for a fresh assessment.

In a February 2025 interview, Todt said the family had decided not to answer questions about Schumacher’s health, and that he respected the choice. The Independent’s account of the interview also reports Todt saying that he sees Schumacher and his family regularly. He did not provide a specific medical update.
What has been reported about Schumacher’s condition?
In March 2025, Italian newspaper la Repubblica reported statements by journalist Felix Gorner, described as close to the family, following an RTL interview. Gorner said Schumacher could not speak and required continuous assistance. These are claims attributed to Gorner in media reporting, not a direct statement from the Schumacher family or an independently verified clinical report. See la Repubblica’s report.

In a November 2025 interview, former Ferrari employee Richard Hopkins said he had not heard anything recently, was not in Schumacher’s inner circle, and was uncomfortable discussing private details. His comments therefore do not establish a new health update. They were reported by The Independent.

As of October 4, 2026, the sources reviewed do not establish an independently confirmed account of Schumacher’s current medical status. Todt’s comments describe personal contact and the family’s decision to keep health matters private; they are not a clinical assessment. The more specific statements about speech and assistance are attributed to Gorner through reporting about an RTL interview.
Corinna Schumacher offered a family perspective in the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, saying: “Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find.” That is a statement from 2021, not a current medical update. No direct, current statement from Schumacher or a clinician about his condition was identified in the cited reporting. Claims about his abilities, awareness, treatment, location, or prognosis should therefore not be treated as confirmed by these accounts.
