The Škoda Elroq is the clearest like-for-like alternative to the MG MGS5 EV: it is almost the same size and has a slightly larger published boot. The Kia EV5 is worth considering if you want more luggage space, but it is longer and should be treated as a larger adjacent option—not a direct match on size or price. Current prices and offers can change, so compare equivalent UK trims before deciding.
What makes a useful MGS5 EV alternative?
The MGS5 EV is a UK electric SUV offered with 125 kW and 170 kW motor options, according to MG Motor UK. Auto Express lists the Standard Range SE at 211 miles WLTP, the Long Range SE at 298 miles, and the Long Range Trophy at 288 miles; wheel size affects the Long Range figures. Its reported boot capacity is 453–1,441 litres, depending on seat configuration. Those figures provide a practical baseline, but they do not make every similarly sized electric SUV a price-equivalent rival.
For a fair shortlist, compare the same kind of purchase: battery and equipment trim, current on-the-road price, WLTP combined range, charging specification, boot capacity with the rear seats both up and folded, and rear-seat space. Published boot figures can use different measurement methods, so treat small differences cautiously. Finance offers and stock prices are volatile and should be checked at the time you buy.
Škoda Elroq: the closest match on size and space
The Elroq is the strongest direct alternative in the available dimensions and luggage-capacity comparison. Auto Express lists it at 4,488 mm long, 1,884 mm wide (2,148 mm including mirrors) and 1,625 mm tall, with a 2,765 mm wheelbase. The MGS5 is listed at 4,476 mm long, 1,849 mm wide (2,094 mm including mirrors) and 1,621 mm tall, with a 2,730 mm wheelbase. In other words, the Elroq is only 12 mm longer, though it is 35 mm wider and has a 35 mm longer wheelbase.

Auto Express reports 470–1,580 litres of boot capacity for the Elroq, compared with 453–1,441 litres for the MGS5. These published figures suggest a modest luggage-space advantage for the Škoda, not a different vehicle class. Auto Express has also described the MGS5 cabin as roomy, but that review observation is not a substitute for checking child-seat fit, rear passenger comfort or your own luggage.

Auto Express has said the MGS5 undercuts the Elroq by around £3,000, but that is a review-era relative-price statement, not a live saving. To judge value, match battery, equipment and any current discount rather than relying on that broad comparison.
Kia EV5: choose it for more luggage room, not a closer match
The Kia EV5 is a larger-space option rather than a same-size, same-price rival. Kia UK lists its length at 4,610 mm and luggage capacity at 566 litres behind the rear seats, plus a 44-litre front compartment. Its listed 81.4 kWh battery and larger body make it relevant if your priority is carrying more, but the cited specifications do not establish a comparable current price.

Kia lists 329 miles WLTP combined for the front-wheel-drive, 18-inch Air trim; range figures vary by trim and drivetrain. For that cited trim, Kia states a 10–80% DC charging time of 30 minutes using a 150 kW charger. Check the exact vehicle specification and current UK price on Kia UK’s EV5 specification page before comparing it with an MGS5 quote.
Other electric SUVs to investigate for range
If driving range matters more than matching the MGS5’s footprint and price, there are other models to investigate—but the available figures do not support a current, trim-by-trim ranking. What Car? says the MGS5 Long Range’s officially stated 298-mile figure is similar to the Škoda Enyaq 60 and Renault Scenic, and suggests considering the Kia EV3 Long Range, Enyaq 85 or Scenic Long Range for substantially greater range. Treat that as shortlist direction, not a head-to-head price or specification comparison. See What Car?’s MG MGS5 EV review.

Auto Express also discusses the Kia EV3, Renault Megane, Volvo EX30 and Ford Explorer among the crowded electric-SUV field around the MGS5. Before ranking any of them against it, verify the exact UK trim’s official range, boot measurement, equipment and current price; the available comparison does not establish those figures for each model. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare your shortlist
- Match the purchase basis. Compare current UK on-the-road prices for equivalent battery and equipment trims; check whether a quoted figure is a list price, dealer offer or finance-dependent price.
- Compare range by exact trim. Use the manufacturer’s WLTP combined figure for the version you are considering. The MGS5’s listed 298-mile Long Range SE figure and 288-mile Long Range Trophy figure illustrate why trim and wheel specification matter.
- Check charging figures in context. The MGS5 is reported at peak DC rates of 120 kW with its 49 kWh battery and 135 kW with 64 kWh versions. A peak rate is not the same as the time taken to charge through a stated window; compare both the rate and any manufacturer-stated charging time under its stated conditions.
- Measure the space you need. Compare seats-up and seats-folded boot capacity, and confirm how each figure is measured. If possible, test your pushchair, luggage or child seats in the actual car.
- Check ownership details separately. Confirm standard safety and comfort equipment, warranty and service terms for the precise UK model year and trim; the cited comparisons do not establish these details across the shortlist.
WLTP range is a standardized comparison figure, not a promise of everyday mileage. Kia notes that speed, temperature, topography and electrical loads can affect actual range; conditions and driving style also matter when planning a trip. For Kia’s explanation, see its EV5 specification page.
