The available reporting does not establish whether the project later secured government approval, financing, or construction activity.
What was the Mexloop proposal?
Mexloop was presented in 2017 as a proposed corridor linking Mexico City and Guadalajara, with stops near Querétaro and León. Futurism reported a route of about 330 miles (531 km) and described connections contemplated for airports, freight hubs, metro systems, and commuter rail. Those were elements of a proposed network, not evidence that the connections were built. Futurism’s October 3, 2017 report also said the team hoped to serve 68 million people by 2020; that was a forward-looking target, not a reported outcome.
How long was the proposed trip?
Contemporary reports gave two estimates. Futurism reported a projected Mexico City–Guadalajara trip of about 45 minutes, while Inhabitat described a full-route estimate of around 38 minutes and also repeated the under-45-minute comparison with a six-hour drive. The articles do not explain why the estimates differ, so they should not be treated as interchangeable or as confirmed travel times. Inhabitat’s September 15, 2017 report preserves the 38-minute figure.
Neither estimate establishes a like-for-like door-to-door journey. The reporting does not provide a contemporary comparison accounting for station access, waiting, route coverage, or operating conditions. The six-hour driving figure is likewise a headline comparison in the 2017 coverage, not a current travel-time measurement.

Was Mexloop approved or built?
The available Mexloop-specific sources do not establish whether the proposal later received formal Mexican government approval, project financing, authorization to build, or construction activity. They also do not establish that it was cancelled or abandoned. The accurate answer to “Is Mexico building a Hyperloop?” is therefore that Mexloop was proposed in 2017, while its later formal status remains unresolved in the sources cited here.
Mexloop was associated with Hyperloop One’s Global Challenge. In its April 6, 2017 announcement, Hyperloop One described the challenge as an open call for regional proposals from individuals, universities, companies, and governments. Selected teams were to work with company engineers and business development staff to explore development and financing. Hyperloop One separately reported more than 2,600 participants, and Inhabitat described 10 winning teams. Selection in a proposal challenge is not the same as government approval, secured financing, construction authorization, or an operating railway.

What did the cost and fare claims mean?
Inhabitat reported Mexloop’s preliminary estimate that the system could cost two-thirds as much as high-speed rail, alongside claims that fares might be comparable to a car or bus trip or a low-cost flight. These were proponent estimates reported in 2017, not verified capital costs or fares. The available reporting does not supply a confirmed budget, ticket price, or operating data.

The 45-minute headline describes an ambition attached to a proposed route, not a demonstrated transport option. The proposal’s route, speed estimates, reach, and cost claims all belong to its 2017 planning context. Hyperloop One research analyst Darryle Ulama argued that a portal connected to city light rail and transit could encourage environmentally friendlier travel and transit-oriented development; this was a proponent’s statement, not an independent environmental assessment. The cited reports provide no current Mexloop-specific findings on emissions, safety, passenger comfort, capacity, or technical feasibility.
