Mercedes-Benz’s “56-inch” MBUX Hyperscreen is a wide dashboard display band, not one uninterrupted 56-inch screen. Announced for the EQS on January 7, 2021, it brings three separate displays together beneath a shared curved glass cover. Its availability details below are specific to Mercedes’ U.S. guide for the 2022 model year.
What the Mercedes-Benz Hyperscreen is
The Hyperscreen is an element of Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), the company’s in-car interface. Mercedes described the unit as extending nearly from the left to the right A-pillar, with a driver display, a central display and a front-passenger display beneath common glass. The “over 56 inches” figure describes the width of that screen band—not the diagonal of a single display. Mercedes-Benz’s 2021 announcement gives the band’s width and layout.
| Display | Diagonal | Technology or role |
|---|---|---|
| Driver | 12.3 inches | Instrument cluster |
| Center | 17.7 inches | OLED central display |
| Front passenger | 12.3 inches | OLED display with a separate operating area |
Mercedes also described 377 square inches of passenger-visible surface area. That figure, like the screen dimensions, is manufacturer-published rather than an independent measurement. Mercedes-Benz’s announcement
How its interface and passenger display work
Contextual functions in MBUX
Mercedes said the Hyperscreen’s “zero layer” surfaces frequently relevant functions contextually, with the aim of reducing navigation through submenus. The company also described software that learns patterns of use and can suggest infotainment, comfort or vehicle functions. These are Mercedes’ stated features; the published description does not establish independent usability or performance results. Mercedes-Benz’s 2021 announcement

A separate area for the front passenger

Entertainment functions are subject to the legal requirements of the country where the vehicle is used. If the passenger seat is unoccupied, Mercedes says the display can show animated stars bearing the brand’s emblem. Mercedes-Benz’s 2021 announcement
Which 2022 U.S. EQS had the Hyperscreen?
Mercedes-Benz’s U.S. guide dated April 15, 2021, for the 2022 EQS lineup listed the Hyperscreen as standard on the EQS 580 4MATIC. The same guide described a different dashboard layout for the EQS 450+: a 12.8-inch portrait central OLED display and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster. Mercedes-Benz USA’s 2022 EQS guide

What Mercedes says about the glass and touch feedback
Mercedes described the cover as scratch-resistant aluminum silicate glass, with coatings intended to reduce reflections and make cleaning easier. Its U.S. feature description says the glass is three-dimensionally molded at approximately 1202°F and that 12 actuators beneath the touchscreen provide haptic feedback at certain touch points. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independently tested durability or performance results. Mercedes-Benz USA’s 2022 EQS guide

Sajjad Khan, then a Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG and Chief Technology Officer, described the system this way: “The MBUX Hyperscreen is both the brain and nervous system of the car.” The line was part of a manufacturer interview, reflecting the company’s framing of the Hyperscreen as an interface joining displays and vehicle functions.
